That could have been me...Sorry...I left my case of Weizen and my case of Jack on your roof....I was trying to get them before your crazy driving caused those cases to fall and break.....

 

I think this statement dictates the direction you should go for an answer. Ask yourself what is the typical occurrence before this happens.

A good rule of thumb, if you are on the interstate, do not merge in front of a tractor trailer till you are at least 2X the length of his vehicle in front of the truck. Typically 150' (75 X 2)

That being said, I would take the opportunity to apologize for that drivers overreaction. Regardless of what you may or may not have done, we, are supposed to be the professionals out here. He/She should have adjusted for whatever the situation was and then gone on with their trip.

Thank you for answering a question and clarifying what I have been trying to find out on this forum for a while about how much room to allow when passing a truck!

 

A general rule of thumb for how much distance to leave before moving over in front of a vehicle at highway speed, for a four wheeler, at a minimum, is to not move over until you can see the entire front of the vehicle you are passing in your inside mirror.

 

What is it that you do that gives you this on the road freedom if you don't mind me asking?
