I just went to work with Knight Refg, after being screwed by swift. I started with Squire, you pick which side you want to drive on either in orientation or over the phone with your recriuter. They make both sound great, GO REEFER!!! More miles, im home whenever i want to be. I usually stay out a month or two at a time. They never hassle me, and i get my detention pay like CLOCK WORK, never had a problem. I started @ .27 cent a mile, but never had a load under 1000 miles. You get a raise after 15000 & 25000 miles. Then .33 cpm after30000 or full Knight status change or after 3 months if you dont get to 30000. I got there in 2month and 12 days. Its a good company, close family atomsphere, everyone knows everyone. I love it

nievesco and Southpaw7391 Thank this. -
Yeah, right Black Bird, I guess after 2 mos. @ Knight you think you know how the company works, the ins and outs. Sorry but you still have a lot to learn. Remember a driver like you is what they want .27 cpm-.33cpm give'em all the miles @ a low wage. While experienced drivers @ .42 cpm sit all week, and they get government $ for you going through their training course and creating a new job. Hope you do well, but you still don't know enough about the company. I worked for them for over 5yrs & seen a lot of people come in talking just like you, then 1-2yrs later, lost their wife, family, house, cars, they leave talking like me. Watch out, be aware of them, because right now you are driving around with rose colored glasses on! Good luck, know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em// always keep your options open. With big trucking company's, the grass is never greener on the other side, same ole grass, just in another yard!
Southpaw7391 and JAX853 Thank this. -
SMAGGS' thread started the same way at Squire and read it now (wth)! It's an awesome thread!

I kno im new to Knight, but im not new to trucking. I worked for swift & it sucked from day one. I like this company for a starter company, not long timr.

Ok, good, because Knight will mess your life up if you let them. I know everyone needs a job. You gotta do what you gotta do, but just know that Knight is just like Swift. They really don't give a flip about you or you family. When your pay goes up, your miles will go down! You are in a good position right now, but don't forget who you're really working for. Keep your options open// good luck.

Many who have habitually carried 'cheap freight' know what that entails: going to customers who have bad reputations and nobody else wants to svce them , customers w/o any driver facilities, remote locations carrying bulk loads such as corn, wheat, rolled-hay bails, alfalfa pellets, recycle paper/cardboard, etc which totally mess up the inside of a van and infuse odors that many follow up customers will not load their products in, and the reasons why nobody but corporate likes cheap freight loads go on & on! Some profit (or often just a 'break even') for the co. but a pain-in-the-butt for the driver.

BTW, I worked for 4 yrs with a Swift O/O fleet, and Knight has 'evolved' into a Swift wannabe. When I left that Swift O/O back in Dec 2003. Knight which had a good reputation as a 'drivers' co.' began its transformation into what it is today---a driver meat grinder, just like Swift, where $$$ is EVERYTHING.......drivers are a dime/dozen and expected to burn out and leave within 2-3 yrs after hiring.

You hit it right on the head. Knight used to be one of the best. Now, well, lets just say its the same as the rest. Pretty sad really.
