    Hello Drivers,

    As a member of John Q Public and a web app designer, I've been asked by several transportation companies to update their hiring process. Therefore, I turned to this forum to get some valuable input.

    What is the best experience you've had applying for a new driving position?

    Are there any applications that were easier to fill out than others?

    Is there still a need to include a hard copy for faxing in an application?

    What would make the experience better or easier?

    I hope to make your next job easier to find, apply, and obtain. Thanks for your all your hard work.

    I tend to shy away from online apps. they seem to get lost with the other 100s that come in daily. Give me a phone number and an adress

    Slim Shady, I hear you on the backend. What I've discovered is that many companies fail to have the right people behind the scenes. The functionality of a web application is only as good as the person responding to it. Thanks for your input as well.

    If you file an application online, be sure to contact the company shortly after you send (a couple hours, or the next morning) to be sure they received it, and ask if there's anything else they might need. I wound up having to fax/e-mail part of an additional form after the initial application. It keeps them from tossing your app on a pile and forgetting about you til "some later date".
    I've found that the Roehl recruiter I've been in contact with is very quick to respond to e-mail inquiries, and this lets her answer my questions at her convenience, which keeps her from being interrupted when she's got other things going on...but I've also called to discuss questions/concerns by phone, and showed up at the terminal (after warning her) another day. All in all, she's been very accomodating.
    I would have to say that my application "process" or "progress" is moving along well, and I don't feel left out of the loop. It's nice to feel informed.

    I like the recruiter site applications the best.One app goes to many companies.Anymore companies are'nt so much worried in your work history as they are your mvr and csa score.Because companies are having a tougher time finding drivers.

    Pattyj, that sounds much easier. Could you provide me with some examples of recruiter sites? In my research so far I've only been looking at company's own sites. What would qualify as a recruiter site?

    At the top of my list for company sites are Schneider's and JB Hunts online recruiting environments. Anyone agree or know of other great sites?

    "Easy" is a subjective term...I would suggest trying to narrow down to your top few picks (based on hiring criteria, training location, etc) and filling out applications for them. It's not the EASIEST way to do things, necessarily, but it keeps you focused on the companies that YOU would like to work for, and it keeps you from being overwhelmed by offers from less attractive companies. If you're just looking for bulk offers, then by all means, have at it...I prefer to focus my energies in one direction if possible, so I can keep everything straight. Just my $.02, as usual.
