Hello my names is tina baril recently i just started my own company and only have one truck. I am hoping to buy five or more trucks withen the next few months and i have some questions. I have been reading around about getting 3.00 - 5.00 cpm and i only thought to my self how good that sound currently i am contracted through jb hunt and i am probley averaging around 1.30 cpm now after i pay my driver and all the fees there is not much left. I was thinking about goign through land star because i heard it was good but i dont know again i am new to this. I was wondering if everyone would be so kind to help me out and inform me of where to go. Ps i may be contacting a few people to buy your trucks
Thanks Tina Baril of barils transportaion

You're going broke working that cheap! $1.30 has you on a downhill trip to bankruptcy in a hurry. As long as you continue to be contracted to one carrier solely you will NEVER get ahead.
Try to create a "Lane" and run it every trip. That will allow you to create regular relationships with different brokers that know every Monday you will be in XYZ town. -
Tina,
My advice, buy a trailer ASAP and RUN from JB. Those rates are not going to allow you to build your company. I don't know where your located and quite honestly it's not like $3-$5 a mile loads are dropping off trees for most people. I hope you have a good business plan. Sounds like your running vans now - probably the cheapest freight there is not to say people aren't very successful with vans if they find the right freight. I run reefers but then I am a glutten for punishment! I guess you need to know your market and what works for you.
Check out Big Bad Bills posts - he has some good ones. I'm not an old timer like some guys on here but I've worked in trucking for over 20 years. I wish you luck! -
Im currently running dry and reffer i own 1999 volvo 770. Yah the only bussiness plan i have is buy more trucks and get drivers in them. I dont own my own reefers yet but i plan on buying some. Any advice guys? Call wallmart i got so and so drivers can we contract or what Look up reefer agents on google?

I think you should go to the O/O forum and do a lot of reading, then start a thread for any specific questions you might have:
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/ask-an-owner-operator/
You'll get a lot more views in there and some really great advice. -
Look into becoming an expedite fleet owner for FedEx Custom Critical or Panther . Your drivers would be independent contractors . They would pay for the fuel and they'd get 60% of the revenue plus 100% of the FSC.

Welcome to the forum and good luck!
