There good engines, assuming the obvious, its been driven and maintained well.
The torque rating is stamped on the engine ID plate.
They're good for 525 hp, many suggest that's the max to push them to. I don't know what it would take to make a 460 into a 525. -
I think it's one of the best engines cummins ever made! As long as its been treated right yada yada yada its a excellent engine. I would leave it stock and you might be surprised. I've ran with a few of them, they pull dam good! This is all coming from a guy whos got yellow blood to boot! As for the rest of cummins you can all keep em lol!

I have a 2000/2001 redhead.... Best engine I have ever had the pleasure of having. Mine is a 460 turned up to a 525 @ 1850 torque with 840K miles. 460/ 525, same block, same everything... its all in the ecm programing.
This is from what I have gathered from Cummin's themselves.
Peak torque is 1200 rpms and peak HP is at 1600 rpms.
Peak efficiency should be around 1400 - 1450 rpm's.
Their weakness is the oil pan at the rear main, they like to leak there, but there is a stiffener kit which is nothing more then a formed bar that goes between the bolts and the pan across the ends of the pan.
Like any engine... if its been taken care of, you shouldn't have any issue.
Run a oil sample and check out idle time.
Do they have any records like any engine work being done ? -
About 2 minutes with the laptop. Boost the power to 525 and the torque to 1850.

Is it that simple, no added unwanted updates?
I've got a 99 500 c+ and would like to turn it up, but don't want the newer programming. My turbo boost hits 38 to 40 lbs now, I would be upset if it dropped with a new ECM tune.
