    Guess what I did today?

    Moar Backing! :biggrin_25523:

Yup, down in the field with this last week's newbies. Had a good time as one of them tried to mouth off to Richard and got put in his place.

Did talk to Gino and he said he'd see about getting me into a truck tomorrow, even if it's just for some observation time. Fingers crossed.

Not the most productive day today.

Our recruiter for the day was from TMC. Man talked for almost an hour and a half. Finally Gino had to come in and subtly hint that he was going on and on and it was time for students to get going.

Wound up doing some "class" time today. Would've been in a truck but two of them were down for inspection reasons. So they had me fill out my log for class time then head down and hang out in the field.

Would've posted this sooner but I wasn't feeling well last night and still feel cruddy this morning so I'll be staying home today. Kinda hard to learn to drive a rig when you're coughing so hard it hurts. Hopefully I'll feel much better tomorrow.

AT: That one's a few miles up the road from me, but I don't think I'll be going out much today.

Woohoo! Finally got a spot in a truck.

Was an interesting morning as one of my fellow classmates nearly took out the fence on the way back into the school around lunch.

Had my first time behind the wheel of a manual transmission today on the gear range.:biggrin_25523: That was...interesting. I mentally knew the gear mapping (we were in a 10 speed) but just never had done it before (either regular or double clutching). I think there was a party going on in that truck as it sure was hopping. :biggrin_25523: I've got a lot to learn when it comes to easing off the clutch and pressing on the accelerator in a seesaw fashion. Not too bad but I know I can/could do better. I'll be back on the range again monday. (For those that are wondering the "gear range" is a mile square block of roads across the street from the school in the industrial park there. They're plenty wide as there are a lot of warehouses and trucks in and out)

All in all we were flipped off once, congratulated once, honked at several times and passed more times than I could count. Next week should be interesting.
