Ok, been seeing some great information posted here. But I'm finding to get information you need you have to know what questions to ask. For instance here in a broker thread I saw factoring mentioned but have no idea what it is and since I hadn't heard of it before I couldn't ask the question before.

So, what other information would someone starting out as an owner op need that they wouldn't know to ask? I know this is a relative question based on an individuals knowledge of the industry. Let me say what didn't you know to ask about when you first started trucking that you learned after becoming an owner op? Not looking for anything specific, throw anything out there. Maybe a general information thread on items most o/o's take for granted. Have fun with this guys and thanks for all the great info in my other threads.

Even though your / my plates are apportioned for 48 states at 80k. Oregon has their own entrance prize (permit). Needless to say I have $435 reasons to never forget to stop at the port of entry and pay for a trip permit. I asked the permitting lady in the office why no one told me about this - since I am a new O/O and this is my first ever trip west. I got the deer in the headlight look from them.

I just have to look at it as sometimes you have to pay for your education.

BTW - Factoring is where a company takes your bills of laden and then charges you a percentage of the bill to get your money right away. They invoice the customer and wait to get paid. Fees can be pretty small to 5% and up. It can give you almost instant cash flow instead of waiting on your cash.

Nice. Actually as a company driver oregon is one of the states I do know of. If I ever get a load through there I have to call permits to get one, I think NH requires a permit as well.
