    Hello. I'm new to forum.

I just got out of trainer's truck at Prime, am considering lease purchase but I hear bad things. I don't really understand what is bad about "be your own boss" but I guess there probably some complicated paper work.

Does anybody have advice? My trainer never shut up about lease program the whole time. Half the time he was complaining, and rest of time he was saying he loved it.

I think he has multiple personality disorder. :yes2557:

you start out company save your money get pointers from owner operators while you stay a compnay driver. even though your profile says 11 yrs,,you should not go lease unless you know what it takes to make a business get off and stay off the ground.

You don't want to lease a truck from any carrier, especially with a new child due. If you want to be your own boss and own a truck, then stay a company driver and save your money until you have a good down payment or can pay cash. When you lease a truck from a carrier you will pay much more for the truck than if you paid cash or financed a truck on your own. Make a commitment to save a certain amount of money out of every paycheck. In a year or two you can have enough for a good down payment or even pay cash for your truck. You will make a lot more money doing it this way rather than leasing from a carrier. While you are a company driver get yourself a ring binder or composition book and keep track of all expenses and revenue generated by the owner of the truck you are driving. It will give you a much better idea of what it will cost to operate a truck on your own.

Things are different in the U.S. than in Moldova or Ukraine. You need to take your time and learn how things are done here before going out and buying or leasing a truck. Honestly, I don't see how anyone can make money by leasing a truck from one of these carriers. Very few seem to be able to make them work. Those who do seem to barely get by on the net income they receive. Most would earn more net income by remaining a company driver. Whether you lease or buy a truck, you should be able to stick more net income in your pocket than if you were a company driver. When you lease a truck from a carrier you will easily pay them up to about $800/week for the lease payment and all the other charges such as maintenance account, etc., You should be able to buy a good used truck for less than $20,000. Even if you financed your purchase it would cost much less than leasing.

Carriers make the lease sound attractive, but the costs are too high for most to make it. And in fairness, not everyone has the ability to successfully manage their own business. If you want to get an idea of what it costs to operate a lease truck there is a spreadsheet on the OOIDA website which might be helpful to you. www.ooida.com. They also have a spreadsheet for those who are thinking about buying a truck on their own. Personally, I would recommend you keep your payment below $1,000/month. The only way to do that is to buy your truck with your own financing. The idea is to make money. You will not be free to take the truck to another carrier when you lease from your company. If you buy on your own, then you can take your truck anywhere you wish. Good luck and welcome to the USA.
