im agree with that last poster said, i hate coming out the truckstop and some ask me too flip him a cig, nope not gonna happen , not gonna support your bad habits, you would think with us truckers , that all who want too be healthy or trying too, they would split the c-store and resturant in half , one side for smokers and the other for non smokers, for all the people who are allergic too cig smoke.just a thought .:biggrin_2556:

If it weren't for the taxes they collect, tabacco would not be legal. The fact is our Gov. cares more about collecting taxes and job security for the medical community than they do for the common citizen. Taxpayers are easy to replace!

Smoking BANs are big up in Canada , nice to eat and not have that low cloud of SMOKE in the restraunt or truck stop.

Some of the states are changing the rules for smoking in public places including truckstops. Indiana just made it a law.
Just a matter of time and most all states will have it passed so we won't have to put up with smoky truckstops.

Sorry Charlie, it ain't that simple. I've never smoked and I don't like being a vehicle that has been smoked in. But as a truck driver, I can just about count the number of trucks I've been in that weren't previously occupied by a smoker on one hand with five fingers left over. And while I've done slip seating, most of my time has been spent in assigned equipment.

This is because 99% of the trucks I've driven have been previously driven by other drivers and most of those drivers smoked. The one and only time I've driven a truck that wasn't previously smoked in, it was brand new. I was working for a company that ran teams. And to their credit, they went so far as to keep track of which drivers didn't want to paired with smokers. But we were doing regional (almost local really) hauls. And unfortunately, they didn't bother to extend the smoking/non-smoking list to their temp driver list. So the first time my partner called in sick, I showed up at the yard to find a temp driver sitting in my brand new, pristine, never smoked in truck smoking like a chimney and taking offense when I got mad at him for stinking up my truck.

So yeah, you can say 'oh tell your dispatcher and leave us alone' all you want. But the truth is, if you're going to work in this industry, you're going to have to put up with being in vehicles that reek of stale cigarettes whether you like it or not.

IOW, your choice to maintain a disgusting habit effects my work environment and quality of life in a negative way. I'm not complaining about that. But facts are facts. And the fact is, your belief that your habit won't effect me so long I complain to my boss is simply wrong.

I'm a long time smoker, and prefer the non-smoking restaraunts. Food seems to taste better, and I can always step outside to indulge in my habit.

And it's true that I smoked in my truck, but never in the sleeper. If I desired a smoke, I hit the seat, rolled down the window, and had at it.
