    Hi,

My husband is Ret Air Force and has a job but is considering switching careers.,He is interested in the Trucking Industry. We are in San Antonio,Tx. He went to Roadmaster Trucking School Office which is a local training school to find out info on the school

and they told my husband to go talk to "Werner " and see if he would get a job,the guy @ Roadmaster told him that there is no sence spending all the time and money on training if his driver application does not get approved. My question is has anybody had any kind of exerience with "Werner" and if so what can you tell me about this company and would you recommend it.Link below

    Thanks so much

You can find enough information on this website about Werner to scratch them off your list.
Listen to what these forums say, I have found in my research that the majority of it is spot-on accurate.
My friend didn't listen, went to Werner and quit 5 days later. His comment to me was, " I should have listened to you and thetruckersreport.com, everything they said was true".

There are many more companies out there, but for petes-sake run run run away from Werner.

One more thing.....Trucking schools push people to go to Werner because they get kick-backs from them. The school I went to pushes them hard, saying how great they are because if they send them enough students then Werner sends them trucks to use for training at no cost.
That in itself should say a lot.....

My school, Western Truck School in W. Sacramento, CA pushes 5 companies, Werner, Stevens, US Express, Interstate and Gordon....only the latter two were worth looking into and they don't even push those that hard...the others get pushed very hard because of the kick-backs.
    Use caution.
I was able to read between the lines and went with a company that was not even mentioned by them. I'd recommend reading about everyone you can on this website, it's an invaluable resource and you'll learn quick enough which messages to take to heart and which ones to disregard.

My method was to skip past all the messages in these forums that were over a year old....good luck!

look into the companies with military programs. Roehl has an "honor program"

i personaly know only some basics about it. namly that you get salery for a couple years and then switch to mileage. free training. and some other perks. to be 100% honest i dont know too much about it, but it sounded like a nice deal for former and current vets.

just so i dont start lookin like a recruiter :biggrin_25526: i should mention there are several companies with such programs. each is differnt

*looks around cautiously* but roehl has really good hometime :biggrin_25520:

there are many reasons not to go werner, they hire maybe 500 "students" a week and will only have a few trucks to hand out for those that graduate full driver status. the paperless log system is a pain to learn I have made several bone headed mistakes resulting in log voilations and written warnings. the system is unforgiving and big brother is always watching you!

I lucked out my last trainer was a driver for eagle, they lease 150 trucks to werner. I proved to him I could handle the job, he gave me an endoresment that got me hired. basically I quit werner and went to work for eagle.

a guy I went to trucking school with has been jerked around so much by this company (werner) he talks of quiting every other day. now they have promised him only 3 weeks of OTR and he will get a regional flat bed position. I tell him considering the track record he has had to put up with I'll believe it when he actually gets the position.

meanwhile I'm doing pretty well at eagle, I turned more miles in september (12,557) then any of the other solo drivers and got a $100 bonus coming on my next check. last month was my first full month with the company.
I got the phone call telling me this info a couple hours ago, I thanked them and reminded them I needed to be 'focused on going down the road' so expect more of the same.

First of all I want to thank each and every one of you for helping me out with this.I was shocked when I found out that Roadmaster had referred him to a unreputable truck company,I have read so many negative info about this company but I understand now why they referred him there (kickbacks etc...) I am very disappoined in Roadmaster .

I think he is going to go with "Schneider" so far it seems like the best choice for us.

    Thanks and Stay Safe

I'm in werner training right now. They require 275-300 hours of actual driving time logged on line 3 to count towards those hours. Your pay is 325 per week for first 135 hours then 350 untill you reach 275. If asked to train beyond 275 hours on line 3 they usually pay an extra 2oo per week. While in between trainers I've had to sit in different hotels all payed by werner. They do take care of their student hires. The qualcomm is pretty easy to use you need to pay attention to it's existence at all times though. This training period is pretty long I'll take close to 2 1/2 months to finish. If a driver can afford the above pay I mentioned werner is a company that will try to take care of you. Once in your own truck make sure you deliver your loads on time, no goofing off. Due to the qualcomm you shouldn't run into problems of having to run illegal. Good luck.

sounds like you've got the right idea, get the loads delivered early, use your hours up, don't stop at every truck stop you see. and hopefully you get a fleet manager AKA dispatcher that will run you pretty good.

however you might get a dispatcher like my buddy has. he is constantly given loads that are already late or he would have to average 80MPH to get them there on time.

the training is very long and I can almost garuntee they will require the extra hours of training. they will give you a line about not having enough trucks for graduated students. when my SDM called me she made it sound like the extra hours were optional, I found out they weren't.

I didn't care, I already had an out by going to work for eagle, they lease 150 trucks to werner and haul only werner frieght.

    good luck!
