If I get my ein as a sole proprietor then want to establish an llc do I have to get a new ein or can I use the same one? I know they sent me the form in the application packet but I can do it for free online.

 

The IRS usually assigns a separate FEIN for each entity. If you want to keep the same number you may check with them to see if they can just do a name change. Better yet, if you know for sure that you will change to an LLC or corporate structure you may want to use the same name rather than changing it later. You will use different tax forms for a sole proprietorship than you do with an LLC or corporation. Tax rates may also be different. You could check with your tax preparer or local IRS office and ask them about the FEIN.

 

Thanks ill check with the irs would like to try and list the buisness in the future as an llc from a liability standpoint.

 

I rarely go to the ports, and the T115 in Seattle only asks for my dl, so far anyway, so I haven't bothered with the twic card. Thanks for the info! Think I'll hold off on the twic, but I will get started on the hazmat asap.

Well, I got the hazmat test passed and the fingerprinting done.......now all I need is my long form medical and I can submit my app. Hopefully the company I'm leased to will give me a copy of it when I ask them real nice tomorrow, but if not, I'll go get another dot done and get a new long form. Hoping to be able to submit my app soon!

Is it true that front convex mirrors have to be installed on the hood of the truck before landstar will hire you on mine don't have any and wasn't planning on putting them on especially after my truck gets repainted, id hate to have them on with the new paint job.

 

Mine didnt have them either, but Landstar does want them put on
