I'd like a lot of miles, decent equipment, good training (obviously there will be limited training @ W&S)...a company who would look good on a future app/resume if I don't end up staying OTR and go local would be great too.
Should I consider Stevens?

Stevens has new equipment. The average fleet age is about 30 months. They run Kenworth T700's, T660's, Pete 389's and 589's and some Freightliners, but only a few of those. There are still a few KW T2000's left. Mine is one of the older ones...a 2010.
All the trucks have APUs and 1500w inverters.
After training and proving you are willing to run, you should be able to get between 2500 and 3,000 miles per week.
Trucks are governed to 62 for your first two years.
All trucks have Jakes, Cruise, AM/FM, Prepass and EZ Pass.
Stevens has a structured organization, no unlike the military. You know who to go to , who is in charge and what the rules are. Their training is excellent.
Look at your first company as one that will provide all the basics that you will need for a successful trucking career.
Short training does you no good, if it does not prepare you for the real world.
Another penny or two per mile is worthless if you're driving older equipment that spends more time in the shop.
I cannot begin to tell you how valuable an APU and Inverter are. There are many companies out there that don't provide these and dont' allow you to install your own inverter.
With and inverter, you can run a microwave, a refrigerator and your electronic toys.
With just the refer and micro, you can save $100 or more per week in food costs.
Life is pretty dull OTR if you can't run your PC, a TV or other toys.
Some companies out there are actually charging back the driver for too much idling. With an APU, that isn't an issue.
Stevens is a strong financially stable company. You don't have to worry about your check being there or getting reimbursed for legitimate expenses such as tolls, oil for your truck, truck washes and washouts, and more.
Read this forum and you will find many companies that nickle and dime the driver.
Hope this helps your decision.jeff1971, Jackofalltrades1977, 0260 and 2 others Thank this. -
