Recently, my better half and I were down in Ontario CA.

When he used to go to the TA there he could order one side salad, and only get charged for half the salad bar price. (he had that stomach surgery and cant eat much)

Well, they changed their policy and he had to pay full price for a salad bar.

They also did the same thing when he ordered a small side of shrimp.

I understand that that country village (I think is the name of the restaurant there) has a business to run, but they have forgotten that it is the truckers that keep them going. They need to cater to the truckers. Its hard enough for you all to survive on the road, it costs so much every where. They have you by the balls when you want to eat or shower.

I just dont think it is fair or right. I think they should change their policy back or make a light and fresh menu for some people or something. (they even got rid of the kids menu -everything is all you can eat) Im a bit disgusted.

If all truckstops did was "cater to the truckers", they would soon go out of business.
Truckstop restaurants have ALWAYS catered more to the local residents and 4-wheeler traffic.
I have been around the trucking industry; begining with truckstops since I was 5 years old.
And they didn't start out as "truckstops" either. They started out as local greasy-spoons with enough dirt out back for a few trucks to park.

unfortunately this will be found in many of the places you stop to eat. the meals are usually huge so hubby and i usually share a meal. this helps us to not ever eat and it cuts down on the expense as well. sometimes i just want a soup and sandwich meal, and those are becoming far and few between also, unless its the salad/soup bar with a sandwich extra.
besides all that i find the t/a country pride to not even be close to what it once was. the next time you are there, ask someone where the farmer boys with truck parking is. its been a long time since i have been there, but i remember them as having some of the best burgers, hot pastramis, and onion rings in the area. i know there is one near there with truck parking, i just cant remember what street it is on.

Its like they expect everyone to get fat. Just eat and eat. Its fine if they cater to the other people, but even the "Other" people like light and fresh, or half orders. Its just stupid.

We live in a society where the majority of people are OBESE! Morbidly so, in so many cases. You'd think more places would give a crap.

No one is tying you to a chair and whipping you if you don't finish your mashed potatos and gravy.....

I understand that, but why should I have to pay for food that is going to get thrown away?

You can still order sides a la carte, and I'm pretty sure you can still order soup or salad "to go" and the price is a little less.

If you don't like it, then go to the flying hook and give denny's your business. If I want three steaks and six eggs without spending $30, I'll go to a country pride.
