I am wanting to give yall some info on A & R Transport out of Joliet,Il. I searched and couldnt find much info on them so I just wanted to help out the next driver.

I first had to do a pre-qual application on the company website. I waited a day and a half and got a call from the terminal manager wondering if I would fill aout a full application to which I repiled of course I want to. I filled out the typical application 10 yr work history ect. sent it back and waited another few days for safety to review my application. I then got another call from the terminal manager wanting to know if I wanted to come to the Joliet terminal for an interview and I accepted the invite. I was actually schocked that a bigger carrier would want me to come to an interview prior to actually being sent a bus ticket to orientation. I got to the interview and met with the terminal manger and the safety person to go over the job requirements, functions , pay , benifits, etc. They then said that they would let me know if they wanted me to come back for a second interview. So once again I waited for a couple days then got a call back to come for a second interview as well as a dot physical, pee test and a fit test with a physical therapist. I then waited for a few more days for the results , then got a call back to start training on March 5th. I did say training, its a two week paid training in Joliet. They pay you for each day of trainining plus give you a room at the local Ramada Inn. They also provide you with 7 uniform shirts which you are required to wear. So this is whats going on so far with them, i plan on keeping this updated with info for other interested drivers.

I was a O/O with them back a few yrs ago. They used to be a great company. But nothing like they were. I ran out of the Atlanta Ga terminal. I was a system O/O and they pulled all of our contracts. I know a lot of drivers that have come and gone. Good LUCK.

I was going to go there about 2 years ago out of Philly but the pay seemed iffy. Like why would they pay you 2 different rates just because your empty you should make less money.

Yea pay scale is different but from what I've seen a lot of tank companies are like that. I know they pay you 30 to load 30 to unload. If you get delayed more that 2 hours at a shipper or receiver you get 18 an hour. Every driver I've talked to seem happy there and make great money.

ok so it took awhile to update this but here's some more info.

So i started with A & R Transport on 3/5/12 and was in for a lil bit of a shock. They actually treat the drivers here like you are a human being and worth something to them. The training takes 2 weeks doing local runs with a trainer . The first day I went to the terminal from the hotel about 8 am did some paperwork all the usual stuff until about 1130am. I then was introduced to my trainer and we were off . The first day i just watched the loading and unloading procedures. Then from the 2nd day to the end of the 2 weeks it was nothing but business. I was taught the basics for days 2 and 3 then I was the one doing the work. It was hard at first then go easier as the 2 weeks went along. I found out just how out of shape I was. You have to climb up and down the trailer , under railcars and sometimes on top of them. There is a lot to learn such as sequence of unloading and loading, sampling the product, etc. This is a top notch company to work for. So far I got my truck and delivered my first load about 45 min from my house, went home for the weekend and now getting ready for next week. Most drivers make about 67k a year up to 80k for the drivers who just like to work rather than go home.

I have a pal just started for them in parkersburg wv he got his truck a week or so back put him in a 2010 kw t660...70 mph...he seems very happy so far..first week and half was training(paid hourly)...he has been doing bulker work for a few years so his training went pretty smooth..so far he has been staying loaded about 75% of the time ..not exactly sure of pay but something in the neighborhood of 30 empty and 49 loaded..$30.00 load and del with hourly after first 2 hours, he said hourly depended on product...will let you know more when I here more

I started with them back in January and I must say so far so good. Some days easier than others but everyone is top notch and treats me well.
