So you stress yourself out and you finally get everything verified. What's next? Well, if you are straight out of school you will find yourself with a trainer who, if not grandfathered in, will only have your best interests at heart as the pay for their new trainers suck. On the other hand, you know either the person who will be training you is either very dedicated to ensuring your success in the industry or completely stupid, but it is one or the other. I hold nothing against the other trainers and I hold nothing against J.B.S. for doing what they did with the pay. They are trying to eliminate the problems which you see throughout this industry. A trainer at J.B.S. makes .02 cpm more then his/her normal pay and you will be dispatched on "solo" miles. This is to ensure you get the best training and that you will not be taken advantage of by a person who simply wants to use a student to fatten his/her own pockets with no regard to what you are actually learning if anything.
ok, i need to address only one paragraph in this post. i do draw offense to as i am one of the grandfathered in mentors. I have been a trainer for over 12years, i have contact with each and every one of my past students at least once a month if not more and right now that is quite a few. I was grandfathered in at the old pay, to be honest with you i would not do the mentor job at the current pay .04 per mile over basic. but i am a good trainer and take pride in my work and in my ability to put out good safe drivers. please do not lump all grandfathered in trainers with a few that should never have been a trainer before. no matter the pay to me my first priority is to my student. but again if the student decides he or she does not need to listen to what needs to be heard i will bring them back to the yard asap. thanks. i believe a flat rate to the trainer is better then a mileage incentive because then no matter what i getting the same pay and more miles is not a priority at this point. i don't feel the need to rush my student into a team driving situation. whitewinterrose -
Oh, I've got to read your thread, looks very interesting, just don't have time right now. Thanks, in advance. I can see it is going to be entertaining!!
edit: just read it all, and it is EXCELLENT! Maybe should consider writing professionally? It's that good.Last edited: Mar 28, 2012

Now I'm just curious to see what's up next! I've been considering JBS since Greeley is only about an hour or so away from home, but I'd sure like to hear what their miles and hometime are like!

I was a trainer there and left, you are right about the solo miles, 1500-1800/wk with a trainee in the truck, for 2 weeks my last trainee and I got stuck on Texas Dedicated running 200-300 miles a day,he got a lot of good training there (sarcasm).lots of mountain driving (sarcasm) and lots of city driving (sarcasm). I feel sorry for him when he gets his own truck.I would not recommend this company to anyone.
