The first time you are stuck in the snow or mud and have an auto shift, you'll understand why many hate them. That said, we have a truck with the freedom line, a 13 speed automatic. The driver loves it.

I've driven an auto in the snow and ice. Still don't understand why many hate them.

we had autos in the snow plows for the state. They were, "different" to drive.

We had issues where they would not go into gear no matter what you did. shut the truck off, restart and it would work fine.

never drove one OTR. Just running snow plow or in the army.

Stuck? You don't mind the automatic when you're stuck and can't rock the tractor? not my idea of fun, but whatever blows your hair back. :biggrin_25525:

I have a 18 speed and I'm very happy with it. Autos in the mountains are dangerous, they are harder on fuel compared to a manual driven properly and are boring as hell to drive. To sum it up they are lame.

The day I have to drive an automatic truck is the day I don't drive trucks anymore.

I wouldn't want a auto deciding to shift gears on me while climbing or descending a steep snow covered grade pulling a loaded super b.

Can it be slapped into manual mode to prevent a unwanted shift?? Probably.. But in my view it's not real trucking.

I got into trucking because I enjoy driving trucks, and like the challenge of it. I drive on road and offroad pulling 140000 lb tankers with my wife on some pretty crazy ### roads and wouldn't want it any other way.

A pete 379 longnose, black lots of chrome, cat 6nz with a auto?? How lame would that be. Lol

yes you can put it in manual
    WHY....?
