    Onlookers didn't know what was more surprising Wednesday afternoon, that a big rig was teetering on Carson Street after hitting a building eave, or that the eave of the 134-year-old V&T Depot building appeared to be undamaged.

    "That's a tough building," said Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. R. Jackson.

    The orange 18-wheel tractor trailer was resting on just 10 wheels after a rookie driver tried to make an eastbound turn onto Washington Street from Carson Street at noon. The driver cut the corner and took out a steel post then dragged the top right side of his trailer along the corner of the eave. The trailer was dented in and the eight tires of the right side were off the ground, but the eave corner had just slight damage to its shingles.

    I may be wrong, but judging by the shadow, the mirrors on that side would have been shining from reflected sunlight. I'm not making any judgments on driving ability or lack thereof. At a minimum, I would expect a very quick run to remedial training. If the trailer was empty or lightly loaded, there would have been little damage to either the trailer or the building from tipping a trailer that high.

    Sun shining in the mirrors is NO excuse. There are just some corners you KNOW you cannot make. I do not see a lack of common sense this bad being able to be fixed with additional driver training.

    I disagree with that. Even if the sunlight was hitting the mirrors you do not make a turn to the right if you cannot see. The very basics of driving. Also by looking at the picture it looks like it could also be a day cab which he should have been able to see from the back glass. Don't know if Schneider uses them are not. He also cut way to early even with or without the sun in the mirrors. Should have seen that coming. If there was a car in the lane where he was turning he should have waited. No excuse here.

    Look close. Not a day cab, but a full condo.

    I agree, sun or no sun. Never make a turn if you cannot see clearly. Get out and look if you have to.

    He should not be sent to training. This picture should be used in training tittled "What not to do while driving a truck". See this is a problem. People get in a hurry and not pay attention which causes a saftey issue. Everyone at all times should alsways thinks saftey first. My opinion.

    Roadmedic is right, it is a full condo with a full fairing, what appeared as a back window was a sign attached to a light pole that probably said no right turns for trucks, I went to the article and looked for comments and specifics.

    I agree. I think the appearance of a back window is the cross walk signage.

    If you look close at the trailer's door, you will see a padlock on it, so I guessing that it was loaded.
