Werner...now that pops some memories..
Was sitting in a TA in oklahoma one night..A female werner driver (and no I'm not knocking females at all so don't go there..my first trainer in 2000 was a woman and she could drive her ### off) pulls out of the fuel islend..turns too wide and put the right steer of her truck up on top of a guardrail to the point that the steer was a foot off the ground..snapping the guardrail posts up to that point..she thre i the power divider, backed off the guardrail and left..the pilot manager sees what happens and calls OHP....they run her down, bring her back to the pilot..ask her if she did it..she said..NO..they pull the security tape..watched it, arrested her for leaving the scene of an accident, impounded the truck.back in 03/04 similar thngs were common with werner drivers..they'd back into somebody in a truck stop and just take off after realizing what had happened...we had to block one in at a luvs in NM to keep him from leaving before the bears got there...
Not werner's fault as a company, just lack of integrity on the driver's part but don't be one of those examples..Just be safe...and try to avoid their terminal in Memphis..its a hole and so is the pilot right next to it.

Man thats horrible. I take great pride in being a very safe and professional truck driver. I give and show a lot of respect to all Semis, autos and motorcyclist etc. Although I think I'm a good driver there's not a day goes by that I don't learn something new in this field . I use to be a Locomotive Engineer and that was easy to operate compared to being a truck driver.

How are you at obstacle course driving in a big rig?
I read that those Dollar store accounts have super tight parking lots to get the truck through and behind the building...
Getting in at 5 am might make it easier, but then the lot will start to fill up with 4 wheelers making your egress much more difficult!

There a fine company. I pulled flat bed and had 20 years behind the wheel. What I saw over three years with them is all good. You do need to slow dispatch down from time to time.

I'm pretty good at backing. Although I've only been driving Semi's since Sept. of 2011. I grew up driving pick ups with long trailer's. I know that's a big difference from a Semi but it did help me out while attending trucker driver training. I have worked with and met drivers that could and can back circles around me. Like I had stated I'm very safe and not embarrassed or ashamed to have to get out and look or pull up several times if needed. I'd rather spend all day and it take 100 attempts to back up without incident then have a minor incident by not doing so.

Your almost there
I will tell you as I was told 36 or so years ago. Pick a spot behind you, Line the outside rear trailer tire at it. Park your trailer. Trucker fun? Day off? Put a 1/2 milk jug way behind your trailer. Back up to it, without turning it over, but the tire rubbing it. I have made a lot of $ off other drivers that took that sucker bet.

LOL..I always told trainees..picture in your mind you are sitting in the trailer looking backwards and steer the trailer to get it where you want it to go..most of em got it after that..made em start to picture what they wanted to do in their minds..
As far as dollar general stores..slow and easy in those circumstances

No layover I rather do it in a rest area I had to call my dispatch to get me out of one. safe heaven?
no way rookies and student drivers are let loose to practice backing in the yard... Ok yes free showers but 2.50 to do laundry per load

I worked for Werner for about 7months after getting out out of school.Worked the Dollar Gen.account out of Indianola,MS.You will be unload
be backing in to some tight places and have 4 wheelers darting in and out as you are doing it.I was only getting around 1500 miles a week with 4 or 5 runs a week.I have a friend @ Werner that went OTR with them and she is getting around 3,000 miles a week.The recruiters push the DG account real hard because of the turnover.The only ones making good money on DG are the trainers because there is 2 people to unload and keep the truck moving.Hope everything works out for you and Good Luck.uprrmn Thanks this.
