Volvo 770 and 880 are my favorite trucks.

Can I ask what you guys think of the Volvo? I get very mixed reviews from American truckers, the negative ones are usually from die-hard peterbilt/kenworth fans! Others really like them, I know the european and American versions aren't the same but this side of the pond they are a very good truck! Any owner operators running them there? I had a couple and got nearly 5 years trouble free operation from them.

I own an 06 780/ISX slightly tuned with almost 800k original miles. Not without it's problems like every truck out there. It's the most comfortable truck I have ever driven, and I've driven most of the Pacar trucks, Freights and Internationals in the past. One of the strengths is a very direct steering a very car-like feeling if equipped with regular spring axle, not a Hendrickson Air-leaf in the front! Mine has no DPF nor DEF so it's pretty light for it's size and engine. Not a single problem here with weigh/axle adjustment when hauling a fully loaded reefer. If I had to buy another truck I would not hesitate one bit buying the same combo over again (780/ISX). No regrets here.

I take your point about the steering, euro volvos are like that too aswell as scanias, drove a mercedes this week and the feedback from the steering was so vague, I'm the type that likes to feel what the truck is doing under me, hell if you cross over the White lines on the road you can feel them in a volvo, that's not saying it pulls the wheel from your hands or anything, it really inspires confidence especially on wet or slippery roads.

Take the 780, you are about to start having problems out of the International, its 4 years old.

I would take the Volvo. Driver friendly, smooth, quiet and new. I would not buy, but as a company driver I would take it in a heart beat.
