As former employer here in Orlando, I'd say that's the best deal your going to get, recent experience or not. That is, as long they are taking taxes out and not giving you a 1099. Good luck to ya and I'd highly suggest reading up on log regulations and CSA2010. CSA2010 will be the biggest change for you, and is basically a points system that you get from DOT inspections. The more violations and out of service inspections you get, the higher your score. The higher your score, the more likely you'll be let go and no one will hire you. Read up on it!

Go for it. In this economy if you have earned this great opportunity to have a steady job that will support your family I think you are one of the lucky few these days. If you enjoy doing this job, that's a huge bonus.

Good luck to you, I hope it works out for you.

Thanks for all the help, but in the end, after meeting with the owner it was revealed the pay was under a 1099.... No way...

Did you try to tell him what would happen to him when they catch him using a 1099 improperly? They've been cracking down on that pretty hard for at least 3 years now. His accountant will back you up if he has one.

Sorry to hear that. Have you checked with Beyel Bros yet? I'd go down in person and apply. Heck any of the crane companies here in Orlando. You might be exactly what they need.

Any time I hear 1099 it's a big red flag.... Thanks Glock, I have a friend at Crane Rental. I have done 15 years of local heavy haul and 4years dump trailer & rolloff. I really want OTR and envientually O/O. I'm good where I'm at now and will prob make the change to O/O in the next year or so. Flatbed in FL is so challenging.....

I was just talking to a guy from Beyel pulling a stepdeck, that said he just got in from a run to New Orleans and was driving a sleeper truck. That's why I mentioned them. If you want a BFI, you might try Roehl as they have flat division and hire in FL.
