Change your service to Sprint, you WON'T have to get a NEW card. I have the Novatel Wireless Ovation U-720, which is the same modem you have. You only have to call Sprint and give them the ESN number. Same fast speeds NO LIMITS on bandwidth.

Sorry Sprint will not activate a Verizon card . None of the carriers will activate a foreign ESN (an ESN not originally assigned to that Network). At least on EVDO cards. Sprint always has really good rebate deals happening for new customers anyways . New device should only cost you $100 at the most

Already solved the problem anyway......my daughter who is in college....stole my Verizon card and is using the crap out of it.....If I weren't interested in using the Slingbox.....I would definitely have kept the Verizon card......MaxSig.... Will your products help me with my speeds on my Sprint card? I am looking very hard at the unit that is wirless....for the 4-door car.....I think that would work fine in the truck....and would be plenty for the Computer, Wifey, and Myslef...

I would assume that the Verizon is a dedicated wireless network & requires both the card & an account as well as a password to access. Is this correct?
Why is it slower than Wi-Fi? Is it accessible in more places? Sorry these may be dumb questions! -
Our products will improve reception greatly and get you signal in places you would not normally get it . Better signal most of the time leads to increased speeds and reduced latency, but it is not the only factor . There are other factors involved neither you or I have control over. Such as traffic on the tower you are connecting to , Capacity of that tower . Usage by other users connected to that tower.

EVDO operates over the Cellular networks . And it is faster than WiFi in alot of cases also . An EVDO card is required and an account . It is $59.99 a month with Verizon and Sprint . It is accessible pretty well everywhere you can get a signal on the cellular network . WiFi is only available at designated hot spots.

Not sure if this helps, but with Wi-Fi you need to be stationary versus a data/air card which you can be mobile.
From the web site:
The reliable BroadbandAccess Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) network from Verizon Wireless has been enhanced with EV-DO Rev. A to deliver even faster data speeds and greater efficiencies for web browsing and accessing your corporate intranet and email.
Faster downloads typical speeds of 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps 1
Faster uploads typical speeds of 500-800 Kbps 1
Lower latency improved performance for many applications running over the
wireless broadband network.
NationalAccess
Traveling outside of the BroadbandAccess coverage area? No problem. You can rely on our NationalAccess network to provide fast downloads, quick access to your email, and efficient Internet searches in thousands of cities and towns across America whenever youre outside the BroadbandAccess Rate and Coverage Area.

digital network.
My question: what speeds are you talking if we purchase your products, Gord?
Thought i'd throw in Verizon's disclaimer also.
1BroadbandAccess speed claim based on our network tests with 5 MB FTP data files without compression. Actual throughput speed varies. In order to take advantage of the benefits of EV-DO Rev. A, youll need to have an activated Rev. A-capable device and need to be in a BroadbandAccess Rev. A coverage area. These devices will indicate coverage when you are in a Rev. A coverage area. For a list of current devices, please see our current line of BroadbandAccess-capable PC Cards or contact a Verizon Wireless sales representative. All of the BroadbandAccess PC Cards currently offered on verizonwireless.com are Rev. A-capable with the exception of the V640 PC Card.
2NationalAccess speed claim based on our network tests with 101 KB FTP data files. Actual speeds and coverage may vary.
Thanks! oh, wait I have another question. Streaming is watching videos right? Is that it? It is not allowed with Verizon, or it could use up your allotted megabytes?

since I know squat about wireless internet & am proud to be the last American without a cell phone.
I have an online business and need reliable, reasonably fast access in at least MOST places in the western U.S.
I ALSO WANT TO BE ABLE TO WATCH TV VIA SLINGBOX WITH AT LEAST DECENT PERFORMANCE.
What in your opinions is my optimal set up? Card/network/anything else, etc? Your help and info is greatly appreciated! -
Like I said before . We do not control speeds . We just give a great signal that will get you the best speeds available. The available speeds depend on all the other factors I listed above. I can tell you signal will be available in places it normally is not , and you will have less disconnects
-
If you are going to run a Slingbox , Rule out Verizon . Your options are Sprint or Alltel. Optimal setup depends on what device works with your laptop, Definately make sure you are getting a Rev A device for best speeds. An Antenna /Amplifier kit will give you the best connection possible wherever you travel
