What is the equipment like with Garner? I'll be attending CDL school soon, and Garner isn't that far away and I'd much prefer a smaller, local company to some of the other options. Do the trucks have APUS, etc?

They still have a couple automatic trucks which suck, in my opinion, but they are weeding them out. Some trucks have APU's and others just have a bunk heater. I have run my bunk heater and cooler all night with the truck off without a problem. It will shut down if the batteries get too low and leave you enough power to start it up to charge the batteries up, but I have not had to do that yet. Of course to start... you should expect to get one of the older trucks but they aren't too bad. The cleaner you keep your truck and the better you maintain it will eventually be noticed and after a while you will move up I think. Good luck and remember my name if you do come to Garner! I could use a weeks paid vacation! LOL! That is the referral bonus they give for recruiting drivers. NICE!

Pay package?
I think they still have the lowe's account near me. -
Pay is just above average, depends on how long you have been driving. I know trainees make $95 per day while in the trainer truck which is about 3 weeks for someone straight out of school. Of course, since you have been driving for 5 years it would be much shorter, if at all. They haul alot of lowes loads out of Findlay. Detention after 2 hours, Breakdown pay after 1hour and those are $10 per hour. Miles are decent, but not always consistent so they have a $600 week minimum. I have been here almost a year and I really have no complaints, but I just take whatever they give me and run it the best I can. *I do whine about 1 shipper we have in Cinci, They are so rude* but I still run it! LOL! I figure I have to have something to complain about... right?

Update! I hear that they are getting a couple new Volvo Automatics, will know for sure in another week or 2. I test drove one of these for about 2 months and I have to admit... they are pretty nice. They improved the transmission a LOT! Pretty sure I will get one because I am now a trainer, so keeping my fingers crossed. The freightliner columbia that I have now is pretty tired.
