OK so I have to ask... what other underlying issues are we not hearing. Companies screw up all the time, but they usually"cover their ###" so I have to believe there is more to the story.

If Swift wanted rid of that driver for some reason, whoever picked that time to do it screwed up for sure. They should have let her come back after jury duty, and then canned her for the real reason later. No wonder swift is in court so much. They let chuckleheads make too many decisions for them.

Doesn't even matter. The law states that you cannot fire an employee while they are on jury duty for any reason. No exceptions. Period. They have no defense. Even if they fired her for something else, they broke the law by firing her while she on jury duty.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of a company doing. There's no excuse for it.

When I got orders for Jury duty, I gave them to my boss. He showed them to his boss and told me I had the day in question off. No questions asked.

Regarding this, I agree with some members who say Swift picked a bad time to fire her over something else. My guess is not only her DM will be looking for a new job but his/her boss if they knew about this and chose to ignore it.

This just proves that swift does not look at your personal life. You dont show up for work your fired, They dont care about a reason. Granted in this situation it was illigal for them to do so, so now they are in trouble.

Swift is the biggest training company in the US. They as a company do not care about your personal life. They care about making a profit. Sorry to sound rude, but if they cared, they would not have people chasing after students who owe money. The driver retention would be lower than industry standard and most companies.

Now maybe some DM's do care but that is rare.

i was called twice within a few months for jury duty. never went though, canceled both times. first time was right before a 3 day weekend holiday. the other just canceled. makes you wonder what the courts are up to.

easier to go straight to the proper people than let someone else screw around with it. learned that when i was in Florida. turned in 2 week notice, gave to my supervisor, who gave it to the floor manager. day before my two weeks were up my supervisor was handed the notice back and said 'this goes to HR' ever since then i've just gone straight to HR with anything like Jury Duty or similar.

how do the companies you guys work for handle jury duty? the call center would have paid me some sort of jury duty pay in addition to whatever the court paid me if i'd ended up going there.

Fax the summons to your DM, just like a doctors care form.

Though you will probably have to make arrangements to clear out the truck in a terminal well beforehand, and will have to get a new truck upon return.

Called for duty and called them and told them I was an OTR driver. Got dismissed.

For voting I do absentee a month before the election. They know me by name there!
I even got called in 2008 while taking radiation and chemo and my doctor wrote them IF I came in I could not even breathe on anyone in the court room and got dismissed! Glowing in the dark and having some nasty poisons running through your veigns helps but because I drive this desk like a madman the next one I get I'm going! That $8.00 a day is 2 meals for me and will kill some of the boredom of being disabled!

Man I don't hate cancer, I really, Really, REALLY Hate cancer! Now just waiting for God to give me my life back! It's amazing that not one trucking company will hire a 32 year vet driver for in the office even as a directions guy! I love trucking! ROFLMFAO!!!
