Wantabe Getting Late Start

    Here is my question Guy' and Gal's I am 60 years young, female and have not worked outside the home in 20 years. I have a daughter and son-law that are both truck driver's. I have asked them about my chances of getting a job driving, of course they know me and know that I could do it. From what I have researched I would rather pay for it myself, rather than being a slave to one company for a year. What I want to know is my age and lack of former employment that hands out a w-2 form going to make it harder to get a job.:biggrin_25514:

    Thanks so much for the reply. This is what I want to do. I have never been one that likes to sit behind a desk. I like the outside and have always traveled the back roads. Last month I went out on the road with a trucker friend to see if this is really what I want to do, and it is. I love the freedom and still be able to make a living. Thanks Again

    It may drag out the app process and take a couple companys off the list for you but it will not keep you from getting a job.

    Just go for it. I also started late - at 56, it's something I've always wanted to do and now I'm doing it. Although I've been out in the work force, I found along with the high pay also came 3 times the amount of stress, bs and alot of working with idiots. I find this in every industry, but doing this is different. There's stress and pressure of a different type. You can let it bother you or not and the result will be a great time or not. Getting into it later in life puts you in a different category than most. I think that's what's changing the trucking industry. There's good and bad to it, but in the end, you don't have anyone looking over your shoulder. If you do things right you shouldn't have any problems. Although I've been around truckers for alot of years, there's a new breed out there. It's defintely not like it was 30 years ago. You just have to except that. It's still great but the mix of driver types is tough sometimes. You can tell by listening to them where they fit in. You take 'em or leave 'em. It's never too late to do anything you've always wanted to do and you'll have a great time doing it.

    There used to be a lady on this forum who went by the name of Texas-nana, she did just what you plan on doing now, and at a similar age as I recall.
    It can be done. Determination is what counts, and that is what will get your through.

    Don't forget to visit the Ladies Room and talk to some of the other lady drivers there, I'm sure they will be really helpful as they have all been there.

    Thanks to all of you that have taken the time to reply. I have two schools that I am looking at. I do want the best training that I can get even if I have to pay for it myself. Which I think would be the best option
