I think a commercial vehicle loan is 2 years because of the wear on it and all that. The rest of the terms depend on the bank or credit union.

A loan can be anywhere between 12 mo to 72(new truck) I try not to go more than 36 mo on used trucks though. I went 18 mo on this used step deck I have, but when I buy my new trailer this year, it will be 60 mo. $70,000 is hard to swallow without a little time. A 20k truck can be a big money maker or big money taker. It all depends on what the previous owner did to it.

I bought my first truck for the same price as my first car, and the truck has lower miles than my current car. The engine has just been rebuilt, it only has a few years on a touch up paint job, new cab mounts, and all brakes and rubber over 90%. The previous owners needed a car trailer, and they couldn't get the previous owner to sell it seperate from the tractor. They kept it for a few years, then decided to sell it for what they put into it, and bought a newer truck as a tax write off.

I don't reccomend doing such a thing to anyone that minds the taste of grease, blood, and dirt. I plan on wrenching on it almost daily, and I'm going to spend a week on it on my own before turning it over to an independent shop to go over it and tie up the loose ends before I ever back under a load. What I'm saving in payments, I'm putting towards repairs, as I'm certain they will be plentiful. In the off chance my maintenance fund gets too fat, I'll buy a second truck, put a driver in it, and let his revenue pay both of our maintenance costs.

A cheap truck isn't for everyone, but I feel like its a good fit for me.

You'd be lucky to find anything other than a loan made for commercial vehicles. Its usually a few hundred a week (unless you buy new, in which case it could be over $1000) for 2-5 years around 8-16% interest, with 10-20% down.

If I had it to do over again I would buy a old 87 $5K cabover put the other $15K into it have a good truck that if it did breakdown it would take much to fix ok I might not go that old or for the cabover but If I was to buy a newer truck it would have to be brand new and I would do like the big companies do trade it after three years. Unless it was a repo most newer(4-5yr old) truck was gotton rid for a reason

I have had my 21,000.00 truck for 10 years and have made over a million dollars with it so far . So it can be done . I won't be getting rid of it any time soon.

My old boss has been around for many many years running with cheap old trucks. If he taught me anything during my time around him it is that Old Trucks die hard. Hell I think my truck was over 25 years old when I worked there. Don't think he ever spends over 10 k for one.

I think people put too much weight into a trucks age. Hell they aren't even broke in until 500k.
