TMC from the inside

When I was there ink was fine but no piercings.

 

I was surprised when I was there the at the level of maturity of some of the guys. Some older than me (40) acting like they were out of the house for the first time, the old saying when the cat is away the mice will play comes to mind. Carrying on like a bunch of teens.

Others that couldn't drive make you wonder about the quality of certain driving schools. I know some try to get as many thru as possible as quick as possible. The 13 speed tranny that TMC uses takes a bit to get used to but isn't that hard.

 

last ?? before I leave, I am getting ready to fly out this weekend and need to know where I will be able to eat dinner in the evening? I am flying so i will have no trans.., Will i have to order out or eat PB and J and ramen every night? Thanks for all the info and all the post its time to get busy now.

 

I worked for TMC for a long time. They often bent over backwards trying to give new guys a break. I know of one guy that failed his road test several times. They put him with 2 different trainers for remedial training. I was one of the trainers at the time. He drove fine, but freaked out at "test time". After failing the roadtest that many time the decision was made to let him go. Todd figured if he gets that flustered, the next test he failed may get someone killed. As for eating dinner, if you are going to des Moines, there is a cafeteria in the terminal, just across from the hotel. And lots of places deliver too. But where the terminal is on the south side of des moines, it is a loooong walk anywhere. And cabs in des Moines are spendy.

 

was thinking about putting in an app with TMC but the 350 wk is not going pay for much at bill time. especially if you are out 3 to 5 wks with a trainer. and the 2 wks of orientation, I under stand why,...but wow... I have 2.5 yrs of flatbed exp so i was wondering if you will still be put with a trainer...thanks for any advice in advance

 

Grunny, unless it has changed since I left, no you will not have to go with a trainer. May not even have but 1 week orientation as well. As long as your experience is verified and acceptable. I liked TMC, and I miss working there. But it got to where living in South Dakota wasn't working anymore. Couldn't get home, or revenue tanked when I did. A guy in Indiana like you should get home every week end, and make pretty good money too.

Hey EX88M, best of luck to you. I graduated my cdl school, and have my class a. I will be behind you in Iowa. I arrive the following Monday. I'm sure you will have NO problems there. Keep us posted though of your expierences. I look forward to meeting you soon.

 

Just got called from TMC as well. They want me to come on Monday but I told them to give me a week shot until I made my final decision.

 

Also, if you are a smoker, go to orentation with a cartoon. Its a long walk to the gas station.
