As long as you get that recruiting bonus for every new hire referrals you will be fine at a $1.80 or so on the dispatch miles. You'll have a tough time of it at $1.40 a mile if the new hires aren't putting you as a referral. You will go under at that rate. That's paying them to haul freight.

I was still making over .50 a mile and $1250 a week without any referrals. Guys I have recruited don't have their own recruits and are making good money. Do you guys know as much about your own business where you are as you think you know about ours? I hope so for your sake. I did not have any recruits first 4 months here. I have recruited about 20 people and like 17 are still here making a living. If it was so bad wouldn't a lot more of them left?
-
Yeah I know a lot more about mine than you do yours. Have a ledger with every mile driven on every load. I also have misc road expenses. I know exactly what my cost per mile is. Not living in a fantasy land. I pulled for rates like yours in a paid for truck with no other debts and it almost broke my ###
BigBadBill Thanks this. -
Well like I said with no recruits I was taking home an average over $1250 a week while only averaging 2500 miles a week. I don't know why you were going broke at that rate with no truck payment I sure wasn't. Yesterdays check was $2039 on about 2400 miles and next weeks should be about $3500 on 3200 miles.

And you crack me up. People here have forgotten more about running a truck than you know. You run your truck like a rental.
And I am being a jerk and calling it a rental because the way you are running your business I hope you plan on turning that in. Lack of maintenance to this point has done long term damage that will be expensive.
Not to mention you claim to be getting better MPG than others in you company and on par with companies that have spent money on many devices that work to increase fuel economy.
Back in May of 2011, TCA reported that the average LP lasted 13.4 months. And that ACT completes less than 20% of LPs (industry average is around 10%) I would say it is a matter of time. -
How, because he is not blowing a bunch of hot air. You cleared $1.07/mile. Now that is funny.
Enough said. BBB out. -
You question what I know about running my business and you don't even have household expenses in your cost per mile. "I'll have a cell anyways"
BigBadBill Thanks this. -
What is really funny is that he is questioning YOU, probably the person who has more details on numbers for the business than anyone I know.
Maybe you should hire him to do your books. Seems with his method you would be making a lot more money.SHC and rollin coal Thank this. -
Where do you get lack of maintenance from? I get my oil changed and PM at least every 20,000 miles and I just had steer tires replaced with new front shocks and an alignment and Centramatics put on steer axle. Just had dpf cleaned out and ordered new rims for drive axles because I am switching to super singles. Also getting airtabs put on the truck then also. By the way I just filled the truck up and went 1245 miles on 145 gallons. That is an average of 8.58 mpg. Do you know why I get that kind of fuel mileage? I never idle and I run slow plus I shift at 1300 rpm's. Like I said I have recruited about 20 people and only 3 have left. Maybe you guys need to get your costs down? Ever think of that? I did buy a new car around Christmas it is a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria with 33,000 miles on it I paid $4000 cash for. Like I said and offered before I will show you my numbers. You ignored it last time I offered it to you Bill.

Wow the Lease payment just on the truck at ACT is over 600.00 a week and I made I thread where I was ######## about a 1100 payment on a purchase even less if I take the advise of Bill and don't go NTP ..
My truck would cost me 275.00 or less a week Down to 260.00
My plates are FREE
My tolls are FREE
My Qualcomm use age is FREE
Scale tickets ... FREE
My cell is paid up to $30.00 a month for business use ( calling dispatch / customers)
My base rate is 1.12
My FSG is 42.8 this week
My bonus is 0.04 ( QTRLY - all miles )
Haz pay is 0.04
Layover 250.00 ( if ever )
Paid Practical miles maybe 1% off
On Haz I'm routed and it's almost HUB miles
Bald Bill is right ... About what he says fuel national avg is roughly 4.12 this week and in Cali it's over 4.35-4.40 your cost per mile is know where near what you've stated
Mine roughly
Truck 0.10-0.12
Maint = 0.06
Fuel = 0.61-0.63 ( at 6.5-6.8 )
That alone is roughly 0.80
