I see no reason to have cell phones and such as a cost of operating either.
I listed the ones previously and will not do it again.
One must take the time to see actually what it cost to operate a truck, not the business of the truck which you seem to think it entails.
If you use only the items that are specifically truck related, then you as an owner can then see the picture of whether the truck is profitable and compare to another truck to see what the difference is.
Otherwise, list showers you pay for since they are needed because of the truck.
Meals since they are the result of being in the truck.
Internet since it is because you are in the truck etc.....

The cost of running a truck and running a business are the same in a one truck operation. If you have 10 trucks than 10 trucks are paying in to the fixed costs of the business.
Phone ,Internet access ,health insurance, retirement costs are all part of business expenses.
The Part that most people miss I never hear them figuring in the cost of equipment replacement I guess their tires were out there brakes were out but there truck never wears out?
Your not going to tell big kid anything he's a glorified company driver but more of a recruiter that's how he makes his money sucking in more LPs for the company.SHC Thanks this. -
Road medic, I get what you are saying, but I'm just stating that in MY operation, cell phone and Internet are a required cost. Just as importantly as fuel because without them I can not book freight and thus the truck sits, just like it would if I did not figure in my fuel costs. I would eat MEALS no matter if I was a CPA or a truck driver, therefore I don't plan those into my operating costs.
And to be honest, as a single operating truck, I also figure in my home costs as well, such a gas, electric, house payment, car payment ect ect. Then I know how much and at what rate I MUST run per mile to cover everything. Anything over that is pure profit in my eyes.
And my business model shows me that I have to make $1.50 per mile for all hub miles @ 10,000 miles a month to have all my bills paid, and $1,500 a month going into my maintence account. -
Better factor in some more costs then.
Cost of the home, insurance, utilities and possible replacement.
Add additional cost for a spouse. (word of advice here) You cannot make a high enough rate for profit with one. -
Roadmedic is dead on from a pure accounting stand point. On the high level you have a business. What are all the cost associated with running THAT business.
One of those costs for that business will fall under what it costs to operate the the truck. That cell phone is not required to run a truck down the road like fuel.
But that cell phone is likely required to run a Trucking Business.
How I figure my cost per mile has changed when I went from a single truck operation to 6 trucks. -
Additional cost for a spouse that's wide-open there could be anywhere from one cent per mile up to five dollars per mile. LOLBigBadBill, SHC and Roadmedic Thank this. -
Where in the world could you find a woman that cost a cent per mile? That's a heck of a deal right there.
BigBadBill and SHC Thank this. -
Well I have EVERYTHING figured into my costs including retirement, medical insurance, house payment, all household bills, $1,000 a month into my savings account, $500 a month into a mainframe account for the house, and a vacation fund as well. My fiancé makes almost as much as I do, so her cost is 0 to me. Heck, she even bought me a new seat for my Harley and a new air compressor for the garage while I was gone for the last 3 weeks
BigBadBill Thanks this.
