I was shut down due to high wind yesturday, snow and ice on top of tahachapi today, saw my first big truck turn over, rattled me good. Sent in over 10 rpwr request on load. Had meat dept send me new delivery times, and the CSR telling me to drive straight in, he sent me two messages pretty much calling me lazy.

Lets just say the qq message I sent back may get me some trouble in the am, I dont care, tired of beeing punished for doing my job right. Just baffles me these people can sit in the same room with each other and still not have a clue what the other is doing with the SAME LOAD AND DRIVER!!!!

Drove just under 3000 this week. Good miles, this meat load I repowered is late now, I have safety on my side so no service failure but still I hate not getting things in on time. Did the math and even if I hadnt been shut down in 60mph winds for 3 hrs and snow and ice for 2 hrs the load would have been late. WHAT DO THE PLANNERS DO. Last load I had I ran 1900 miles off in 3 days, load had 6 days on it. Pick up this repower with 1 day on it...900 miles and 2 drops WTF.

If none of this makes sense....its cause it doesnt. Ready for some home time, this week should be my turn to park for 5 days. Winds are finaly settling down in Cali and NM.

Snow storm was crazy on top of Tahachapi today, only 15 miles of it but a sheet of ice it was. Im still Tech on weather shur down but I couldnt get ahold of safety and made the dec to roll on, it wasnt all that wise, but I made it safely. Like I said, 500 ft in front of me truck jacknifed hit the ditch and rolled right over, four wheeler behind it ended up on its roof. I just dropped a gear and rolled on, sheriff was right behind us anyway and the road was clear and there was no way in hell I was touching my brakes for anything.

Just want this load off me it has been no luck since I got it yesterday, ready for a new birth of sense.

After four days of no smoking, I failed today, after writing an essay to daniel the csr about how he should do his job and I will do mine I figured I might need to have a smoke before I dug the hole any deeper.

Sorry for the rant. Be safe, Shifty!!!

Set the scene; Meat calls me.....you have a new appt time 0430 the 19th for first drop.

I send meat a qq message; please send me new appt time and appt number, thanks.

Anonymous sender immediately sends back message(Daniel).
    MESSAGE 1;
WE NEED TO GET THERE TODAY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WE ARENT JUST GOING TO RESCHEDULE APPT FOR YOU; ROLL AS SOON AS YOU CAN.
    MESSAGE 2; SAME SENDER
THAT MEANS, IF YOU CAN ROLL IN TWO HOURS THAN ROLL; THAT MEANS IF YOU END UP SITTING THERE AND FINISHING A BREAK THEN GET TO ROLLING. IF I COME IN TOM MORNING AND YOU HAVENT MOVED AT ALL AND YOU ARE JUST SITTING- THAT WONT WORK. YOU NEED TO GET TO THE RECEIVER AS SOON AS THE PASS IS CLEARED TO GO.
    NO NAME AT END!!

THIS IS WORD FOR WORD NO BS. AT THIS POINT I AM RED- HEATED UP!!! THIS DESK JOCKEY JUST CALLED ME LAZY AND A P****......H*** NO!
I HAD A DIVA MOMENT FOR SURE. THIS IS MY MESSAGE BACK WORD FOR WORD.
AFTER CALLING MEAT DEPT AND FINDING OUT WHO THE SENDER WAS.

LISTEN DANIEL; I DRIVE AS FAR AND AS HARD AS I CAN "SAFELY" EVERYDAY. BEFORE YOU GO AND START TELLING ME HOW TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK MAYBE YOU SHOULD LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE. AS THE SAFETY DEPT HOW MANY ACCIDENTS WE HAD THIS WEEKEND DUE TO HIGH WINDS AND ICY ROADS, OH WAIT, SORRY THAT WOULD BE ME TELLING YOU HOW TO DO YOUR JOB. I HAD ALREADY BEEN TOLD THE APPT WAS RESCHEDULED WHEN I SENT THE MESSAGE ASKING FOR THE NEW APPT TIME OVER THE QQ. THERE WERE SEVERAL ACCIDENTS ON TAHACHAPI TODAY; GUESS WHAT DANIEL I STILL MADE IT TO THE RECEIVERS DOOR ONLY TO BE TURNED AWAY TILL THE AM. THE ONLY WAY I COULD BE CLOSER IS TO BE PARKED ON THE STREET, SHOULD I DO THAT DANIEL? IM NOT SOME SLUB SITTING IN THE TRUCK STOP PLAYING VIDEO GAMES, IM A DRIVER. I CANNOT MAKE ANY MONEY UNLESS THE WHEELS ARE ROLLING. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT PUT THE SAFETY OF THE MOTORING PUBLIC, MYSELF, THIS LOAD, OR STEVENS TRANSPORT EQUIP AT RISK IN ORDER TO SAVE YOU AN EXPLANATION; ITS YOUR JOB YOU DO IT YOUR WAY. THIS IS MY JOB, I TAKE MY TRAINING AND SAFETY SERIOUSLY. IF THAT IS A PROBLEM FOR YOU WE SHOULD HAVE A TALK IN THE AM. SO ONCE AGAIN YOU HAVE MADE THE DRIVER AT FAULT AND MADE US LOOK LIKE THE IDIOT; FOR DOING WHAT IS EXPECTED OF US. FYI THIS LOAD WAS BEHIND WHEN I GOT IT, WOULD HAVE HAD TO PARK ON STREET AND CREEP IN TO MAKE OTD, OF COURSE IM SURE THATS MY FAULT TO. AS YOU CAN TELL I DID NOT APPRECIATE YOUR ACCUSATIONS AND FORETHOUGHT INTO WHAT YOU FIGURED WAS MY PLAN OF ACTION WITH THIS LOAD. DANIEL, DONT SEND ME MESSAGES IF YOU CANT EVEN PUT YOUR NAME AT THE END OF IT. SIGNED MY TRUCK NUMBER AND DRIVER CODE.

TO MUCH? KINDA HAD MOMENT BUT DANG SOMEONES GOTTA SAY SOMETHING, JUST CAME ACROSS TO ME LIKE HE WAS SAVING FACE AND THROWING ME UNDER BUS, JUST NOT THE GUY.....WHAT DO YOU THINK?

You did the right thing Shifty...if it's not safe to drive, it's not safe.

The more I have read since I quit Stevens, the more that Im glad that Im gone! I dont have to put up with that crap at the new job. In fact I actually get praise several times a week.

And I also just figured up my pay for the week. Just this one week is a tad less than an average months pay from Stevens.

Not a bit. My only experience is hauling reefer, nothing to do with yanking a tanker. Sorry. I suppose the training at Stevens would be a good thing, but since you would want to leave to haul fuel, that would leave you with the training bill and all. I guess my advice is to find basic truck driving training somewhere like a specialized truck driving school then hump with whomever you can until you get your hazmat and some experience with hazmat and then find that job you want pulling gas.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, but then this is a forum for and about Stevens, a reefer only outfit. Though we do some dry loads and I hear soon some oil field hauling.

Fuelers come from the tanker fields. They don't just train to go.
    Unless you know someone.
Normally, you need a couple years experience with tankers before they'll consider you.
And a perfect driving record, no criminal history (post 911 rules).
There are a couple threads on TTR that cover tankers and fuelers.

here's a good one. four days ago i have 250 miles left on a 1900 mile trip, but since i run hard everyday i didn't have hours to make otd. so i put in repower request. tell dm i need reset. he lines me up w/ a repower in vegas. so i sit out my 34 anr deliver load to ontario. get load assignment to brawley. get there sit out second reset with 64 hours to drive. they are an hour late and break dld. so im running up against my govenor to make load. get a call from meat dept. saying i can't make the load and have to repower in vegas. the load they repower me with delivers in vegas 24 hours from now and has a whopping 1.1 miles on it. so in summation i will have driven 700 miles in 6 days and can look forward to making a 26 cent pay check for my family tommorw, and probably my 3rd reset in 5 days..i think weekend staff needs to smoke smaller rocks!

when you get those short loads, ask (demand?) local delivery compensation. It's $50.
But it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Man, to see what you guys go through, I'm glad I went with Werner. I'm on the Dollar General account out of Ardmore, OK and my Fleet Manager is a former driver himself. Thank you Stevens for cutting me loose at orientation.
