I spent 3 years with Heartland, in the beginning it was fine. Good miles and hometime, but as I moved up the payscale the mileage dropped until I was at the top pay and trying to survive on 1200 miles a week. But the capper was the time they basically left me out to die when my Gall Bladder shut down on me. I was 9 hours from the house but it was more important for them that I deliver my load, reload, drop that load and reload the next morning with a load of soap to Baltimore. When I finally got home and out of surgery, the only thing they were interested in was the location of the truck, which they could see on the Qualcom. Once I was healthy enough I left them and have been with my current company for three years. I have met plenty of other former Heartland drivers who have had similar experiences. If you are thinking about hiring on with them I would talk to others who have driven for them beforehand. You can find ex drivers at any coffee counter at any truckstop guaranteed.
I Drove for Heartland, never again

Heartland should change their name to HEARTLESS EXPRESS. I worked for them for a year out of Phoenix. They are the worst scumbags I have ever worked for in 35 years of driving. Drivers mean nothing to them and they will tell you that to your face once to go to work for them. Heartland drivers come in two stages, new drivers who don't know the company yet, and drivers that have figured them out and are in the process of leaving.

A friend of mine who has 16 years exp worked for Heartland for 3 months. .48 cpm to start then his mileage dropped to 1200 to 1300 a week tops. Not to mention layovers. Never late on a load, no tickets, no accidents.
Now he's (company driver) been running with his current company for a little over 6 months. Has a new 2009 Freightliner, plenty of miles 2800 to 3000 a week. Every week. Dedicated run.
He's happy, I know that. -

I just left this sorry ### company. I have only been with 2 other companies over the last 25 years of driving and I have never been treated so poorly as I have with these guys. The best week I had was just barely 1800 miles and that was a good week, my last week there I sat for over 3 days waiting for a load and was always surrounded by other heartland drivers waiting also. I should have left months ago, but I was hoping it would get better. Boy was I wrong. I just signed on to what I know will be a better company. My advise to other drivers is to stay as far away from Heartland as possible.

I hear your complaining. Does anyone have specifics as to your problems, so we can all share. Just the constant badmouthing, with no specifics, do not make me want to believe that there is not more to the story.

Yes, I do realize the post is old. But, I was wondering if anyone was monitoring it since it is apparently still on the begining of the post.

There are other Heartland threads that are more active.
