Wylie Byce had drivers dumping crude in ditches then billing customers for the haul... Same with salt water... Over billing. Or just being unreliable.... Deer valley trucking... DVT had a huge contract through Marathon. Went and bought a lot of new trucks.... Then lost the contract cause there fly by nite and now have over 75 new trucks just sitting... So u can drive for power fuels and get good money or the other guy and see if u can get lucky day to day...

I wonder who hit the bridge on HWY 85? I see that section of road is closed.
Bridge is now open with one lane of traffic.
It's now closed until further notice. Can't make up their minds.Last edited: Mar 19, 2012

Something to remember with some of these "fly by nights" is that they might be new in North Dakota, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're new to oil field service work. Some are just expanding from other oil patches. Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma based companies seem to be pretty common.
And, considering what the natural gas field looks like at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised to see some come in from there, too...pathfinder1361 Thanks this. -
Some were also potato or farm implement haulers......

True. I wouldn't say DVT or Wylie are fly by night compared to many others but they don't have the best reputations. Marathon is very difficult to work for so there may be more to the story. Wylie being bought out by QT or QC or whoever they are may straighten them up. It doesn't sound like QT did much homework in buying a company with Wylie's reputation. -
Fly-by-night   [flahy-bahy-nahyt]
adjective
1.
not reliable or responsible, especially in business; untrustworthy: a fly-by-night operation.
2.
not lasting; brief; impermanent; transitory: a fly-by-night theater.
noun Also, fly-by-night·er.
3.
a person or thing that is unreliable, especially a debtor who evades or attempts to evade creditors.
4.
a person regarded as a poor credit risk.
Fly by night has nothing to do with working in an oil patch elsewhere it has to do with business practices and the ability to sustain work in an area. -

Apparently after they re-opened 85 a car got into an accident. Thats why they closed it again. The guys running the training at power fuels were talking about it this morning. Some were late coming in because they had to drive around it. Then they were talking about it again after the car accident, something about it being closed indefinately.

85 being closed really sucks as it is THE major route south out of Williston and Watford City. Any route around is fairly long and can get tricky this time of year if you're hauling any weight or like my guys hauling overweight I had to get permits today for some loads out of killdeer up to Williston and because of the routes around that bridge they went from 400 dollars to 1400 dollars thank god they are billable.
