Rollin, I have compared all of these programs. Problem with NASTC is that the better rates are off the beaten path and don't seem to be the majors. When I was still independent I used two cards to find the best rate. But with a fleet a card like this just doesn't work.

But don't fear, we should be able to get some better discounts soon and by the end of summer we should be about 15-20 trucks and able to get better rates.

    rollin coal Thanks this.

Log book has to match times of card fuel purchases. Pay cash and you can be inventive.

    Do not count on that.

Friend paid cash and had an accident. The cash receipts have an invoice number on it and they were able to verify the time of purchase with that.

It satisfies the Safety Dept. for the moment. If something like you say happens then you pay the piper.

Well, I guess its time to get my CRE card and look into NASTC. On top of the JBH and LS cards, along with cards from the pump jockies I'll need to get a bigger wallet too.

Forgot that, one of the reasons we require the use of our fuel card. But main reason is IFTA. And in near future being able to print report and show it to companies for discounts.

I get a 5 cent discount at a local BP and I get 14 cents discount at one of the Indian Casinos when I pay cash... I now buy 90% of my fuel at local mom and pop joints, mostly in Wisconsin, when I run regional.

Most of my runs are out and back so I don't need to fuel on the road... screw the Pilots, J's and other big guys. I'm a small business guy and I support the the folks who are also trying to make a living like I am.

Now when I start running the Florida potato harvest in a few weeks all of that is out the window... but I still buy most of my fuel at smaller fuel stops. When I run back from FL on US 280 there's a joint just east of Birmingham that's usually about 15 cents cheaper than the guys on the interstate...

Running with cash means I always know exactly how much $$$ I have in my fuel account without going on-line or making a phone call to some customer-no-service department.

Unless it's an old manual pump there still is a computer record. Compliance review in 2002 proved that to me.

Good for you, keep it up. I do the same and for many of the same reasons. I pay cash for my fuel also, I have two plastic cards in my wallet, my Texas CDL and my Texas CHL.

We are a small business and we like to support small business.
