We at Budd Van Lines wish to express our sincerest sympathy to the family whose belongings went missing, albeit temporarily.
Please note however that Budd Van Lines is in no way associated with the events that transpired. Budd Van Lines sold the particular trailer used on this relocation to TransAdvantage several years ago, and our decals were to be removed as part of the transaction. The fact that Budd Van Lines' logo and other identifying information was not removed before being re-sold to Red Lion Moving & Storage is now causing great harm to our hard-earned reputation. We are pursuing legal action to rectify this situation.
We recommend that families always move with a BBB-accredited and ProMover-certified member of the American Moving & Storage Association.

You are sort of " RESPONSIBLE " to remove all IDENTIFICATION if selling used equipment.
chalupa, drvrtech77, Grumppy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Agree, any selling agency needs to "De Id" their equipment when selling. Even if you just spray paint over.
FLATBED and Leftlane101 Thank this. -
You gotta love these people that don't think professionals deserve a decent rate then come crying for help when they have trouble with a fly by night company . Then they ask for and get good advice from the pros but don't have the courtesy to come back and say thanks or let anybody know if the problem was resolved .
windsmith Thanks this. -
Very few non-overseas moves are done in storage containers/crates. Yes when items are brought to the warehouse they may be crated, and when they do that they use a lower quality thinner pad or paper. Those pads are not made to handle a long distance ride. Usually the furniture is unloaded from the crate at the origin agent and the driver uses his pads to load into his trailer.
So you need to find out what trailer/company the load went on, if it did not leave directly from the origin residence. And the folks that booked the order darn well better know this, and are the party responsible.
Years ago there was a problem with moving vans being stolen in the Miami area, contents unloaded into an overseas container, to be shipped and resold in the Caribbean and South America. Have not heard of anything like that recently or in the Northeast. May just be driver abandonment. -
The conclusion of the story can be found in this thread..

I worked for a company that sold the boxes and moving supplies to movers and I saw plenty of domestic long distance moves unloaded from the local truck , crated , then shipped on a larger truck . When there was a shortage of vans I saw the crates put on flatbeds and tarped.
This shipment was just as I called it - delayed because it was combined with other shipments that were dropped enroute . Then the substandard equipment paid for with substandard rates unsurprisingly broke down and thelow rate unprofessional driver disappeared. -
There's a lot that goes on with peoples furniture that they aren't aware of. They think a moving van shows up, loads their furniture and goes straight to their new home 5 states away. Not necessarily. It may make a stop for other customers pick-ups/deliveries, it may get off-loaded in a warehouse temporarily, even if for a day, it may get to the destination city early and be off-loaded into a warehouse and then delivered by the local agent. It may be "interlined" which means the local agent who booked the move then has another agent actually do the move. It's always bad news when your belongings get handled by several movers. Better chance for damage and loss.
