Posted in another section for some info on universal am can but I dont believe that area gets much traffic. So if anyone can give me some good fairly up to date info I would appreciate it. I am thinking of leasing with them and wondering if they are what they claim. I have never leased with anyone before so I dont want to make a mistake. They claim there flatbeds are averaging $2 per mile. There fees dont seem to bad. Also they have a load board so I wont have to deal with dispatchers. Any input on them would be appreciated.
thanks

mason dixon great american lines Louisana transportation Economy and a whole bunch of canadian companies are all a part of universal truckloadservices inc as well as universal amcam. If you lease to one you can haul any frieght the others have their bobtail insurance is a little high and you have to have either workmans comp or occ hazard insurance. You can run your own tags or company tags. They pay you 75 percent of the gross plus fuel surcharge. My boy is going on with great american lines the 1st week of april and this is the scoop according to them

Have you ever thought about Mercer, I was with them and did really well I believe they are honest and do not nickle and dime you to death. My boy would be there now but he is only 21 and they will not take him until he is 25 anyway good luck on your venture

Thanks for the info spacetrucker. Surprised there hasnt been a few more responces on universal. Maybe I should rethink it. My dealings with the recruiter and safety department have been good so they seem on the up and up.

i was with mason-dixon before i came to mercer, mercer is better by far. no contest
you have to play the agent game at the universal companies -
UTSI( Universal) Is owned by Matty Maroun Or however you say his name He is and old guy must be a gozillionaire he is the guy that owns the ambassador bridge and a judge put him in jail a short while ago (over the bridge and the state of Michigan ) not the trucking companies.I had heard that he also owns Rouge Steel but do not know if that is true or not.I have several friengs on with Great American Lines and they all say they do ok Great american is the steel hauling part of universal. Valley out of Ashland Ohio has a lot of trucks leased to great american I am guessing they have 50 or more trucks on there and they have been on a long time way before Angelo Fonzi sold to universal so that should say something.

I agree mercer is straight up and honest in my opionion the only reason I left was my new wife asked me to try and be home more as with them I was out 4 to 6 weeks at a time. Some on these forums will say It don't get no worser that mercer ( I made that up just now) But I think they would be hard to beat

Universal told me that they would put me in touch with a agent for the first couple weeks to get me going and then I would be more or less on my own using there load board. Is this true or am I going to find out the load board doesnt have much and I will need to deal with agents? One of the reasons I am looking at them is due to the fact they have a load board and they say they leave you alone and let you do your own thing.

Do you have to be leased to them to pull off of their board, or can you use them if you're an approved carrier? Just curious.
Doublecutter Thanks this.
