Jimmy Hoffa, I spent my first year at May lobbying for apu's, or, for them to at least raise the idling % during the summer mos. They did raise the idling % for the summer mos. They at least did the latter.
If May spent the money to install apu's on his trucks, would that really be enough to keep you around as a lifer with his company? Based on what you wrote about just putting in your time long enough to get one of those good "local jobs", I doubt it. He knows that's the reality. Plus, if Werner and Gordon are all that, just because they have apu's, why don't you get a job with them?
Training isn't for everyone, you're right about that. Neither is being an OTR truck driver. It does provide me with job security though.![]()

Scoot, I was waitin for that, typical company response,"" why don't you go work for them"". Wouldn't take much for May to go from being a good company to a great company. How about improving the showers, Fontana is a embaressment, hell Brooks is a mess. How bout pay for time spent at docks, the benefits are a joke. I guess it's easier pumping out orientation class after orientation class to make up for driver loss, but then theres big government money companys get for doing that. Cr England has people from there office pretend there drivers post positve things on the internet about there company. I'm glad you found a home here, good for you. I don't expect any thing out of you, don't even know you. I guess we're just supposed to post positve things here about May. Gotta get to driveing getting that top dollar.

Jimmy, the reality is this, life sucks sometimes. We don't always get what we want. There are things I don't particularly care for about May, I have expressed them to upper level management. I just don't feel the need to get on a public forum and wring my hands over them.
Though you don't like to hear it, reality is there's a hundred different companies you or I could go to work for. I have friends in this industry that work for different companies, believe me there is no pancea, they let me know that. It might not be the same complaints you have about May Trucking, but I hear the complaints nonetheless.
Some people just have a bent towards complaining. Ever sit in the lounge at one of the terminals? Good Lord, I've heard guys complain about the same things over and over. Some of them have been here since I came to work at May. I'm thinking to myself, "why in the hell would you stay somewhere this long if you're so unhappy?"
Fact is, the cowsh*t smells just as bad on the other side of the fence...
As to the showers in Fontana or Brooks, I don't use them. I stay at the TA when in Fontana and use one of my shower credits at the Pilot in Brooks. See how easy that is?
sky king Thanks this. -
Yes there is cow poo everywhere you go. Hopefully some of these companies feed their cows better quality grain so it don't stink as bad.

I will be honest and say that even though May does not have all the perks, they don't sound all that bad. There are ways work around the issues mentioned as I have found out by asking questions. I will most likely be putting in an app with them. I think overall they would be a good fit for me and what I am looking for to get into this industry.

Yep. When I started in this industry 3 years ago, there were only a few entry level companies hiring in my area. The usuals, Swift, CR England, Werner. The recruiter at Gordon led me on to believe they would hire me, then said they stopped hiring guys with no experience.
Just go on those companies threads and read the complaints, makes May look like the gold standard

Oh yeah, a good friend of mine works for Swift. Has now for over a year. He has no idle restrictions, governed at 65 mph, gets detention pay after 2 hrs docked and says they have really nice terminals with ALL the amenities.
He called me last month saying he was going to quit because of "the bull sheat" he has to put up with.
Oh well...Last edited: Mar 21, 2012
