Thanks T-Lady, but to clarify, here was the question..."do you require every load to be tarped?" and for those who aren't familiar with McElroy, they are a flatbed company and require you to lift 100lb tarps(during orientation). I could lift it every now and then, just not everyday, this my question...

I don't think you asked a stupid question.I was always told there are no stupid questions.Just hang in there and you will find the right company with the right fit.As for women in trucking I have a cousin that has been driving for about 5 or 6 yrs.She is doing great and I call her from time to time to discuss routes and so forth. So just keep a positive attitude and everything will be alright.

I remember when the recruiter came out here to our school. Not every load has to be tarped and some are even pre-tarped for you. Idjitt man. You must be thin so he didn't think you could lift that much. LoL

Lots of flatbed companies out there,
Scratch that ##### clown company off your list ....
And contraire to what Kansas said that is discrimination....
Or just stupidity ..... When I was an operations manager, we had a girl that worked the dock and drove a switcher, she out worked 10 guys....
And this was moving 200 pound air freight cans around a dock...lilsister Thanks this. -
You won't hear much talk about the "good" companies, cause we don't want the losers, whiners and scaliwags competing for our jobs...

"scaliwags" Now there's one .....I havent heard that in awhile........ LMFAO.....

There are no stupid questions. Failing to discover the job required something you were not able or don't want to do would have been stupid.
Sounds like you are on the right path.
Best of luck to you, Welcome to the Jungle

That is pretty rude. On the other hand McElroy is not a bad company to work for. One thing to keep in mind is that while out in the real world I've never met a forklift driver who wouldn't put my tarps on top of the load, most flatbed companies will want to see that youre physically able to lift their tarps and put them up on a trailer. If you can't do that they won't hire you. In my experience most women (and many men) don't have the strength to pass that test. In the 5 years I've been driving truck I've seen 2 female flatbed drivers. I'm not trying to discourage you, i'm just telling you how it is.lilsister Thanks this.

then the recruiter should've had the same courtesy, to "tell her how it is."...but maybe that's just my opinion.

I can soooo relate.......it is these type of small subtle things that drive me nuts. I make a mental note to self, and like you try to move on and view it as their potential loss. Happens more than I care to admit and sad part is I don't even think they are aware they are doing it.
Good luck to you!lilsister Thanks this.
