"Yet, a driver in the same conditions will be expected to grin and bear it."
you have to understand, that to Susie Q. Richpants, her sweet wittle curly haired poodle who rides around in her white leather seated Caddilac is more precious than some nasty, dirty, filthy, worthless old truck driver.
I'll never try to understand the mentality of dog owners, cigarette smokers, NASCAR fans, or wal mart shoppers. -
Congrats! you can't understand over 3/4 of the country. lol.

Perhaps he should run for Congress.....but I'm jes sayin....

How you going to take idleaire to the shippers and receivers? I like to get my rest where i deliver or pick up at most of the time.

I am also looking into a company that makes A/C units that run on a separete set of batteries, also less expensive than an APU
If I was to order a new truck I would order it with a generator but because of the age of my truck I just can't see spending that much money, but I would consider a used unit for about half the cost,
I think that most of these big companies don't invest in APUs because of the cost, and it is probably cheaper for them to have their drivers idle, also I don't think that most of these companies care about the comfort of their drivers anywayClick to expand...
Try using that webasto heater in your truck from about May until Late September in Louisiana, when it gets to above 90 degrees most nights. I can count on one hand, the number of nights here that it gets below 30 degrees during winter. I can count on that same hand, the number of nights when it's below 85 degrees in Summer. Then try sleeping with your windows open so the mosquitoes can carry you away at night or suck every bit of blood from your body. If you don't have A/C here, you probably will not sleep. There's nothing like falling asleep and waking up 3 hours later, soaking with sweat, lying on a wet sheet and pillow (yech!). You gotta have some form of climate control here and in most places along the gulf south. That's why so many older houses here (like Mine) have the big attic fans to suck in the air at night, and screens on every window and door.

So we lose our fuel bonus if we idle too much. The other night, it was over 75 degrees and HUMID and HOT!!! We left our windows open and a 12 volt fan blowing on my face and I could live with that.
I woke up in the middle off the night coughing from exhaust fumes from the people parked next to us idling their brains out!!! It's just NOT FAIR!!! So, of course, had to shut the windows and turn on the A/C.
If we knew an alternative place to go where it's "clean" outside air, that'd be great but we don't know the areas well yet and this place was PACKED FULL.
I can handle the cold - you can dress for the cold and use the bunk heater but how do you sleep in horrible heat and humidity??? Especially when you CANNOT open the main windows or you'll get eaten alive by musquitos, blackflies, no seeums, etc???????? ugh!!!!
I'd like to see these bureaucrats who make the laws sleep in trucks for a year and see how they like it!!!!!
Idleair is only available at TAs mostly and the few we stopped at - YUCK!!! Disgusting!!! No way I'm stopping at one again!!!! Sigh... have to see what happens next summer...
ADDED: Exactly, newbieanddoinitright.... exactly!!! Soaked, wet, HOT, hair stuck to you, stifling, no wind, ugh!!!!!!!!!!! How anyone can LIVE in that heat blows my mind... over 70 is too hot for me

Fuel bonuses equate to about 1 cent per mile per month. so if you drive 10,000 miles you earned an extra 100.00 bucks for the month. Whoopeeeeee!!!!!!!! I would much rather have a good nights sleep using the heat or a/c as needed. If you insist upon being uncomfortable to get a measly hundred bucks then drive into the parking slot rather than back in. You will not have the diesel fumes blowing into your cab and it will be quieter over all. Just be careful backing out in the morning.

Uhm.... we get an extra 4 cents per mile so that's about $400 a month which, to us, is a big deal. It can be more on months we drive 3,000 miles a week like we have the last couple weeks.jlkklj777 said: ↑Fuel bonuses equate to about 1 cent per mile per month. so if you drive 10,000 miles you earned an extra 100.00 bucks for the month. If it is REALLY hot, we run the truck. We have to sleep. But $400 a month is nothing to easily dismiss in our world, anyway
We've done the drive in many times to get away from fumes and found it works quite well but we've not been in the south in the dead of summer yet, either, so we'll see how it goes.
Far as cold goes, it's almost never too cold for me and we do have a bunk heater so don't need to idle the truck too much
