Because even your "model" leaves a lot of holes to be dealt with that can be dangerous to leave open.

It is not a fixed cost to that truck ...

You can make it what ever you want if you wanna pay ur self to eat then do it ..

    The first sentence says :

Your cost / my cost / everyone's cost are not the same

You are looking at it from a tax side and that is a different avenue ... The question was how to basically determine ... Costs

You wage as a owner Opp is not a fixed cost it is a CHOICE you make to maximize your profits ... If you bid a load and you know your cost is 1.00 a mile and you take a load at 1.35. Then the 35 cpm is all you got to work with ...

    It's a choice you make as a O/O

If you think a broker cares what your wage is think again they care about how fast and how cheap you move it ... Less is more for them

It's the curve of a business owner and a guy that has a truck you make decisions

    What holes ...

    Besides ... Sandwiches , food , food , hotels , food , time ...

    Insurance
    Plate
    2290
    Fuel tax
    Fuel
    Truck
    Maint

Other than accountant which is a choice what else you got

    Cell - no ( you'd have it anyway )
    Qualcomm ( maybe ) ok 13.00 a week heck I don't know
    Scale tickets ? 10.00 (maybe)
Tax filing for year end taxes ...

I don't put accounting in fixed costs cause I personally don't have 1 we do our own

You going to make that same decision based off someone else sitting their butt in the seat? If I found out my boss was not including my wages in the costs of operating a truck, I'd pack my bags.

Why should an O/O be any different?

Those things you add are not a cost to do business

It's cost to live and is deducted from your wage ...

So if you have a job making 40 cpm your health care is a cost to have the job

    Or ..,

Is it called a benefit ....

And when do you take "time" to do those tasks? While you are driving?

I guess if you like to work for free, then don't pay yourself. Myself, I don't like to work for free. For others or myself. My time is valuable to me.

I make more to pay an accountant or mechanic pushing a truck down the road than I do dropping oil or scouring tax/GAAP resources.... It's why they are "specialists" and considered support.

    So they become "fixed" costs.

Omg man ... Being a owner Opp and being an employer is totally different ...

Yes if you put a guy in the truck your driver would be a cost of operation

But YOU - yourself are not ...

Think hard about this I'm not trying to be a jerk ... I'm just trying to make u see

If you itemize everything and deduct nothing from your wage your cost of business is gonna be 1.85 a mile per running mile

I do understand that was fake.
I also understand anyone that doesn't include driver's wages in their fixed costs, doesn't really understand how to run a trucking company. They bought a job with zero benefits, plain and simple.

Hey, you're getting it now, aren't you. That's the point, and that is why so many fail because they don't know what their true costs are. No one knowledgeable buys a truck and gives up all the benefits of being an employee to make less and work more.
