Just read two a day, still a tall order as a sideline. 10 Hours here, 8 at the other job, fueling paperwork, breakdown time etc.. Gonna make for some long days.

Again, best of luck to ya..nothing good comes without hard work.

One thing I failed to mention in my other post was the reason for the delays by the other company. Are the drivers waiting in line for hours to load the mud? What is the average load time where you'll be picking up? That is one thing that could bite ya. I'd suggest checking out the place throughout the day and time some truck getting loaded just to make sure you're not getting in over your head. I had a deal once that always took hours to load on Just in Time freight, and I was always late to the receiver. No one wanted to hear it took 4 hours to load 22 pallets, and I did 70mph just to get there when I did.

If you are operating within a 75 mile radius you won't need to do logbook's. logbook's are only required if you go outside of 110 mile radius I think. They will go off of whatever city you have on the door of your truck I think.

IMO it's a good business plan, alot of us are happy to gross $5,000/wk running alot more miles/fuel than you will on 5 loads. Frankly, the money is good enough that you could probably lease truck, trailer, and fork truck and do fine. That might be an easier way to get started and reduce risk and initial investment; although over the long run your operating expenses will be much higher leasing.

Generally speaking they are not supposed to issue overweight permits if a load is divisible. that is to say it's more for like a big mining truck or something that can't be easily taken apart whereas your pallets of mud it is pretty easy to just haul 4 less pallets. But there is all kinds of exceptions and it's a state by state thing. Maybe TX would allow you to license for higher weights, but if the guy is paying you flat rate $1000/load I don't know why you would want to haul extra anyways.

    Onetruckpony,

Hey man, you are not discouraging me, you are speaking wisdom and I can't express my gratitude enough.

From what was told to me from the director of operations at the mud company, he went over a normal load haul down last week:

The rig was 50 miles out. The normal trucking company left the warehouse and arrived on scene in an hour and 15 minutes, standby was 1 hour, unload was 45 minutes. They loaded up the forklift and left.

Total time out from warehouse was roughly 3 hours. Yes you are correct, me leaving my house and getting to the warehouse and back home will be more like 3.5 hours total to 4 hours. So roughly 8 hours of work for two runs = somewhere around $2200.00

$2200.00 - 10% that the mud company keeps, -fuel at around $110.00 leaves me with around $1650.00 in my pocket. So lets say that I do two runs a day for 6 days = 9900.00/week. Thats if I only do two runs a day. I have plans of hiring another individual already that I have meet here, with several others close to me who want to get in. If I get a few more leases going that I feel can provide good customer service to our clients, then 80/20 split will be contracted.

But for the first month at 9900/week, I am praying I can get enough back before a major breakdown. I will still be incurring my normal pay at my regular job of 6600.00 monthly. If I can get 15 grand set back for maintence I will feel just alittle bit safer. I would like to get my breakdown or emergency fund to 20k as soon as possible.

Once I feel secure, I will quite my normal job and start doing more loads. My wife is on board with the pretense to get OUT OF DEBT. It takes sacrifice, but the saying goes, sacrifice alittle for a short time to meet a long term goal.

I meant you have two of your own forklifts. No one at the drill site touches your forklift but you!

    Danny,

As I have stated before, your advice is priceless, thank you.

Ok, no log book then, good deal.

Just got off the phone with the administration, he told me that he wouldnt require to carry more then 32-34000lbs of mud with my forklift on board. He did say they have a few clients with forklifts on site that may help unload, but the specific client that he wants taken care of does not. So me having a forklift on board is a must.

Without the forklift he said I can carry 45,000lbs of mud.

As for the flat rate of 1000.00. He gave me a price sheet, the loads START at 1060.00 for a 50 mile run. Since this specific client has their rigs within 50 miles, thats how far most of my runs will be. If I decided to carry more for further distance the pay increases all the way up to 3500.00 a load traveling 250 miles. He pays for anything over 24,000 lbs with the variables listed on my price sheet.
