I like my printer, as far as I know as long as you can use Direct scan (Landstar version of Trip pac, Only charges $1 to scan a load or Trip pac charges $2). Direct scan is Landstar version of Trip pac and as long as there is a driver for your printer to hook up, your all good. T think most drivers are out there. I don't think you will have a problem.

I just bought a new HP the other day. Its a laserjet that only does black and white. I can print with my IPAD and cell phone directly to it, and that printer actually has its own email addy which has some definite possibilities. They call it a web-connected printer. Its supposed to work with a bunch of different apps.

I am considering getting into trucking within a year or so. the reason I ask the queston about LS is to try to understand why wouldn't LS or any other trucking CO.use there own trucks. seem like calgary would be a good run.

Landstar is a non-asset based company. For some reason, they don't want tractors, probably due to the excessive cost of PM, fuel, driver benefits, etc. etc.

It's easier to third party contract.

A large number of truckers value independence. They want the opportunity to succeed or fail based on their talent and hardwork. Companies like Landstar harness this energy by providing a system for these drivers to operate in.

If a company utilizes both contractors and company trucks there is the perception on the part of the contractors that the best loads will be put on the company truck. In addition, the IRS and the Obama Administration (at the behest of organized labor), don't like the independent contractor model. They want everyone to be an employee, preferably working for the government. Being 100% contractor makes it easier to pass the tests the IRS utilizes in classifying contractors.

If you own trucks, you are now in the employee management game. Landstar pays they truck 75% (not sure if this the correct %) all of the time. They don't care if the driver took the shortest route to get there, where he fuels, if he ran over the curb and blew a tire, etc. Managing drivers, or any employee for that matter, is challenging. Utilizing contractors allows the company to focus on what they do best.
