I also have some physical limitations so those options don't work for me.

Just notice you're in Charlotte, I'm in Salisbury for now. Was born in Charlotte, grew up in Concord and my dad used to own Charlotte Diesel Driving School.

Her where I;m at anyone can drive a school bus. they even train for free! just go to the school and apply. you will be surprised, but make sure you have lots of patience. I worked for a school for 11 years and it is not a cake walk. those kids are not like yours and you can't treat them like yours! you know I will kick your B--- and so forth. so make sure you are prepared for anything.

Why is hiring mostly from employee referrals a sad fact ? That gets people you know more about . Why hire some unknown just wanting to fulfill has childhood fantasy of driving a big rig ?
Unemployed people need to smarten up and realice the trucking industry is not the place to go . Too many desperate CDL mill graduates will always keep pay low.

Keep an eye on your local city , county , and state websites for job openings for drivers.

You're selling yourself short by limiting what you want to drive. It'll be much easier to find a job if you're willing to drive 4 wheelers. As a example, the employer I'm with wants at least 6 months of OTR experience before they will even accept your application. Even if you meet the minimum qualifications, you're going to be lined up against 30 or more candidates who want the same job. All of the sudden, that 6 months OTR experience isn't as appealing.

I landed a local gig. Drive a 3 axle septic tanker with a fully loaded weight of 70k. I dig holes and pull hoses all day-never had so much muscle. Dirty job but hey I get paid to exercise and drive to Big Sur several times a week for tanks. If the smell doesn't bother you it's a good honest job.
