hello all, i am from NC living in fl fixing to move back to NC soon. a mother, grandmother and wife for over 23years. love driving have for 16yrs now. my thoughts on driving i give to all new prospects is this. think of it as if you were signing up for the military. once your in your in for at least a year (to be able to go any where else) the pay scale sucks for new drivers and if your in a relationship your partner is in too. make sure you have discussed this in detail with them to make sure they are on board and be prepared for their yes to turn into a no way six months down the road. being a otr driver is very hard, not so much on the body but on the mind. stress, fatigue and other factors occur to a new driver that is not use to or ready for the 14hr days. and don't think standing up all day is anything like dealing with other unsafe drivers on the road on a daily, hourly basis. if your going for refrigeration then get prepared for that unit to start and stop all night long. if you have children that are not grown and out of the house yet then ask yourself how much of their growing up are you willing to loose. because you are not going to be at every game, recital, parade, dance or show they are in or put on. your not going to roll over and be able to kiss your partner or even hold your children and tuck them in at night. your going to be gone two to three weeks at a time minimum for the first year. your partner is going to have to learn to do all the little things you do around the house. ask yourself and them can they do this. your going to have to step aside when it comes to discipline of your children because your not there. you can't have them living one way and when mommy or daddy comes home for those three days off change it to the way you want it run. these are just a few issues you need to think of before you go and make that plunge. I was a student with a family, i am now a trainer with a family, trucking is in my blood, my family is into too. but not all families are like mine and this may not be for you.
