Looking to hire an owner operator

    You might even do good to find one of the reputable guys on here that's an owner operator to help you find a decent rig and just pay him a consulting fee for his time. I would STRONGLY recommend that. So you guys are a water bottle distributor orrr what do you do exactly?

    We own a spring over in southwest Virginia that's already been chemically tested, etc and we're trying to get a workable business plan together to help us get small business grant and loan money for a facility and equipment. We're also looking to blow bottles regionally if possible. We have an old business plan but it's from before I became involved in the project and it's six years old. Anyway, I'm doing all the grunt work and there's a lot of peripheral things to understand besides just selling the bottled water. It's a challenge but I believe that it can work.

    I'll take a look at truckpapers.com

    Good suggestion on the possible consultation.

    I have a customer here in Nashville that does that very thing out of TX, NE TN, and Evansville, IN

    Hmm, 24k a year for contract and circa 140-160k to buy a rig and trailer. It would take six years of contracting to equal that and we could well be out of business by then! Of course, doing work with the rig could also net cash back to make the payments I suppose. Complicated!

    I appreciate it. I need to do some hard comparisons here on cost. It's starting to look like, at least in the beginning, a contracted driver might be better since it will likely take 2 years or so to profit. If we aren't able to make a go of it then I'd hate to have the liability of a truck on my hands as well but that may be a false worry on my part.

    Contracting the trucking seems better imo so you can focus on the core business. Trying to make a buck off a truck, that is more a necessary evil than anything else, presents a whole nother set of hassles all it's own and you don't need the distraction. Leave trucking to trucking companies and keep your cost down. Where you going to find a small dependable company to buy this specialized equipment and take on the task? Who knows, good luck... I do know of a mega-carrier based out of Vineland, NJ NFI who has water trucks doing this exact kind of work for Nestle bottled water in Breinigsville, PA that could possibly help you get an idea.

    The company I worked for owned the trailer and leased the truck from a truck leasing company. It was ordered to their specs new on a 5 year lease. The trailer was also new with the truck. The two tankers were made by Polar.

    LOL! If I owned it I might but I'd just be starting the business aspect of it so I've got a ways to go before I can say screw it. Looking forward to that point though.
