I remember years ago, in some clubs bands had to pay to play.. That's what that load is. They want someone to pay them to haul it.

That Bartlett elevator is K.C.T., hauled out of it a couple of times. Tomorrow I haul rock to Great Bend. Most of the time it's followed with a load of salt. However I think we're pretty much out of the salt season, so we may be hauling wheat or beans..

If these rates keep sucking that bad, some of you guys might do well to sign on with some of the custom harvesting outfits rather than hauling for greedy brokers. You might not be home till thanksgiving but if you don't mind that, there's some money to be made out there.

In central IL check some of the Big R stores too. The one in Springfield usually has a sale on one oil or another. They were cheaper than the Wal Mart next door to it last time on Mobil 15w40. Tractor Supply(which is closer to my house)& NAPA are always higher when I have checked in the past.

Yeah, did it one summer a couple years ago. I didn't have a truck/trailer to sign on though, so I was driving for another guy who had two combines, two tractors, and had just bought a third truck. He had an O/O running with him for part of the season so I assume the money is there, but he took off mid season. Didn't like the hours or the time away from home, I guess.

The screen name is a character from a show that was popular back in the 90's with a kind of self mocking title tagged on.

It's also the "First-person singular present indicative form of donar," or "God of thunder" in high german, now that I look.

And thanks, I do try to be interesting at least.

Yeah, I see how you are! :biggrin_25523: I read the thread still, just haven't had much in my little hopper world to talk about. Lot of planters rolling in IL, I've never seen so much corn planted so early, I hope they know what they're doing.

There would definitely be a demand for trucks in the fall, course that's true almost any place with a hopper. Maybe a small 2 machine operation might need some help in the summer as they get farther away from their home base, but they way I remember it, it wasn't too hard for most harvesters to keep wheat trucked away from their combines. A lot of nap time for the truck drivers in wheat season. :biggrin_25518:

Yeah, depends on the operation. Some of those outfits had more trucks than they knew what to do with. But the smaller guys have to have an empty truck ready to fill at all times or the combine stops. You don't want the combine to stop for anything. So if you've only got a couple trucks and they're both waiting in line at the elevator, you're in trouble.
