I recently was hired with another company which is a step , a leap above Covenant. I'm in the Portland area and I know we have a secure drop yard at market transport. The thing is I've put my notice in and I'm worried that if they send me back out I won't be back in time.

It happened all the time for home time due to lack of freight for solo drivers... Long story but I kicked my co driver off the truck.. Anyways I understand the whole daq system etc however its easy enough to explain that I left the truck and keys at a secure drop yard...

My question is should I do that OR take my chances and go back out knowing they won't get me home in time to start my new job.

Will new job start you a little later if needed ? if the answer is Yes, and prob is. Hearing that you can't make it monday cuz you gotta bring back the truck to terminal or whatever, says something about your upright character....
    Happy trails

I agree, I already talked a little about it to the new company and they are willing to wait 2 weeks... Knowing my current company though I seriously doubt I will see much of anything except the next load in 2 weeks...

Im going to ask them tomorrow about the secure drop yard , otherwise I do agree with you.

you might even wanna call them and tell them your done but will return the truck I know alot of companies will and they will pay for your buss ticket you dnt want a abandonment on your record or your chances of getting another driving job are slim to none

Well its been a week on my two week notice and my current company " covenant" has not found me a load or way to return the truck to them. I have orientation with my new company April 9th... so its looking like I may get that abondanment on my DAQ anyways which is fine by me... I will however take the truck and leave it at their secure drop yard at market transport and will video tape document everything inside and out.

I've told my new employer of the situation and they are or at least seem pretty understanding about it. I will save the copy of my email I sent my 2 weeks notice to my driver manager should they put that obn my daq I will submit my rebuttel and let it go at that.

Worked for me. Company thought it was funny about the BS on my DAC.

Company A stated I left truck in unauthorized place. Company B understood that Company A secure lot....is property controlled by Company A.

Not an issue for them. Never been an issue for me either.

I just plan to use my nifty 720p digital recorder on my phone to go over the truck, to state that its being left at such and such place on this date and that I have an email sent to my dispatcher / driver manager stating my 2 weeks notice etc etc. WHY etc. I plan to send a copy of this video to the DAQ people .

My new company told me not every company uses daq and due to lawsuits many companies are putting very basic stuff on them due to risk of lawsuit.

This drop yard is at market trasnport and it is a secured location complete with security at the gate... Not much else I can say other than the truck is going there april 8th at midnight.

I would suggest that you alert the Human Resources department at your current employer. Your FM may be sitting on your resignation, and may not have notified them. Also notify your FM's boss as well.
