So I listened to FM radio today

    After about 8 minutes of listening to FM, 5 mins of which were commercials, I turned my XM back on.

    I originally bought XM because I was tired of constantly switch stations, and I wanted to listen to something driving through the dessert. Note that commercials wern't a factor in me purchasing XM.

    Now that XM has spoiled me with commercial-free music, I'm finding it hard to listen to FM, no matter how much I like the station.

    Plus with XM I can just press one button to switch stations. With FM I have to constantly seek. And the radio in my truck only seeks one station at a time per button press, which means I'm constantly leaning over to change radio stations.

    From a mental aspect, XM is so much more convenient. I can listen to the same station nonstop, and drive, and time goes by so fast because I'm focused. Sure the DJs get on and yap for a minute but that's not so bad.

    With FM, every time a commercial came on, I found myself getting annoyed because of the interruption of my focus on driving. Switch station and commercials coming on seconds later was very frustrating.

    Just thought I'd express my appreciation for XM.

    I can't figure out why you would've even considered testicle radio. Terrestrial. Sorry. It's horrible, it is unlistenable. They play the same 4 songs every 20 minutes followed by 15 minutes of commercials. Yuck.

    We had sirius for over 3 years but got tired of the same songs...OVER and OVER and OVER. It amazes me how there is such a huge selection of songs in each genre and yet they would play the same ones. It was the same on all the stations we listened to, not just one or two. So, now we play CD's all the time....saves us $96.00 a year!

    I do hear a lot of the same songs. I mostly listen to Prime Country while I drive though. I listened to 90s country for years streaming online at home. It makes me relax and focus. I've never heard a radio station play only 90s country before.

    But even on FM, you hear a lot of the same songs. It's mostly new music that gets repeated, and they hardly play those older songs I love.

    I also listen to Blue Collar Comedy once in a while. Another station you can't find on FM. I don't listen to any talk or sports shows.

    I think they could have done a better job playing more hits on the pop and rock stations. They remind me of CDs. For every 2 good songs, you hear 13 bad ones.

    Regardless, I listen to XM 8-9 hours a day, and if I feel like listening to only songs I love, I'll play my iPod music for a little while. When I hear a great song on XM, I write it down and download it to my iPod later.

    As far as CDs go, before I got XM and my iPod, I listened FM and CDs. In a few months my CDs became scratched and skipped a lot. I don't know if your familiar, but you can rip the music from your CDs and put them on an MP3 player. It's much more convenient then switching CDs. And you won't lose sound quality from wear and tear like on the CDs.

    XM will badger you for months if you ever cancel after your year or two is up. I got rid of it as I ended up listening to news more than music. The news would always leave you mad(morons in D.C.) & all the "call 1800...." ads they had were beyond irritating.

    Bad antenna or bad connection where antenna plugs into radio.

    Used to move my radio between several vehicles every day and plug/unplug it every time. Connection wouldn't hold up and I killed several radios this way.

    As a general rule. MOST stations only have a playlist that is 800-900 songs deep. You occasionally find one (in smaller markets) that allow "extra" music to be added by the announcer.

    Otherwise, the vast majority of stations rely on consultants that test every song on the playlist before adding it.

    I have a library of over 17,000 songs. With a "favorites" list of about 300 songs. My favorites list typically includes a new song(s) that gets played for a month...then relegated to history.

    XM/Sirius are dealing with royalty issues causing their play list to be "very limited". If they don't have a contact with the performer or the performer's trust specifying either particular songs or "all songs under performers name" can be played and how much per airing , that or their music does not get played. This is paid for by the "royalty fee" or whatever they call it that appears on your bill. It does get frustrating listening to the same songs on XM. Every now and then you'll find an FM station that has a killer play list, and you'll hear songs you hadn't heard in 15 years ... not so on satellite radio.

    Wilkow Majority, Patriot Radio 11-2 central is worth the subscription price.
