hey folks, i drive a new international day cab, with power widow, mirror, door lock switches on the driver's side door armrest area
the way it's setup, we end up with driver reports of mirrors that go totally out of adjustment (or anywhere in between) because it's so easy to hit those mirror adjustment switches inadvertently while driving, or while using the power window switches
there is a left, right toggle switch with the middle being off, wich is all there is to turn the adjustment switch off
next thing you know, you're looking at a mirror that could be pointing anywhere
regardless of the above, i have suggested that we could just disconnect the power window switches, until we can agree on a solution, (secondary safety switch, cover on the primary safety switch that could be flicked up etc) and just adjust the mirrors manually like any truck that has the manual mirror setup
no one is sure if by manually adjusting the main window mirrors (via typical finger pressure), the electric, or power windows setup can be damaged?
mechanic mentioned gears and stuff but i figure there's an override (like perhaps a clutch) that allows manual adjustments and it's no big deal
then there is possibly that new vehicle warranty scenario, in that any mods then voids potential warranty issues, as in with the power mirrors system
power mirror switches scenario

talked with a dealership and the service dept said there is no issue adjusting the mirrors manually, however, disconnecting the switches might trigger an engine light,
service manager wasn't in to confirm -
Well I never heard of such a thing?
Stop playing with the switches?
Keep two hands on the wheel?
Tell your coworker to stop playing games with you?

Sounds a lot like the set up for most electric mirrors. Leaving the mirror switch in the center position should prevent the problem.
FAMILIARITY WITH YOUR EQUIPMENT is sort of a necessary thing to have. . .

disconnecting the switch wont cause a check engine light or electrical light. Generally i see cust. leave them in the middle. You can adj. them manually and it should be alright.

Grow up and leave the switch in the OFF position. It really ain't that difficult. I"ve had an International now for 3 + years and I have no problem with it.
OR
You could pay the dealer or any other person in the world to lift the switch and unplug the little pluggy thing from the switch. Be sure they put the now defunct switch back in place or else you and the other driver will throw their safety sucker handles down there. -
pull the fuse.....
-
No offense, but we have some pretty picky, finicky drivers/owners and I have never heard of that complaint before. The power mirrors do not go through the body controller, so you can simply pull the fuse, (F4-B, 10 amp), or pop out the switch and unplug it. This will not cause an warning lights or messages. The only thing the body controller has to do with the mirrors is supplying and output for the heating element and clearance light if so equipped.

Fire your driver's. If the mirrors move around by hand, the outer nuts are loose. One nut on each end has a pin through it, that's the nut you don't want to mess with. if the mirrors adjust out and in, the gears are fine.

easiest fix'd be a toggle switch cover, only prob then is you'd have a few truckers that would have to agree on something

service manger said unplugging might trigger an engine light and might even have to reprogram the computer involving the cat,
he's checking with higher ups
tried to post some pix but suppose maybe you need a few posts first
some switch setups are way better than others, a slide type (for the L-off-R part) would be way better here rather than a toggle/rocker type that just needs to be pressed lightly
placement alone could be great for most, then a tall dude with long arms can come into the picture,
service manger also said the switch has a circuit board, so not even just dealing with a switch here,
i ain't driving it without a fixLast edited: Mar 31, 2012
