Glad you got a good trainer and got out of the "Dallas Prison".When I was in Dallas for orientation and truck assignment, there was a couple of people that had been waiting for nearly a week for a trainer.Good luck w/Werner and keep the "Shiny Side Up".

Well here's my recap for the past week. I got with my trainer on the 19th at 9pm in Dallas. We drove to Pryor, Ok and picked up our load. We then drove to Odessa,Tx where we dropped the load and picked up another load. We then drove to Corpus Christi,Tx and unloaded at 3 Family Dollar stores. Then we were heading back to Dallas,Tx. We were just north of Corpus Christi when we received a message to stay in the area. My trainer called dispatch who advised we needed to meet with another driver in San Antonio to swap trailers and that after the swap we needed to head to Roma,Tx to unload the 1820 pcs trailer at one store. All went well, swap made and we drove to The Roma,Tx Family Dollar and unloaded. Then I drove from Roma to Dallas. It was a long drive, especially when your truck is governed at 62mph. It was bumper to bumper traffic in San Antonio, there was a bad wreck on I-35 north in Austin and Waco but I made it back to Dallas with 15 mins to spare. All in all it everything seems to be going well. I do think it's strange that I've hired on for the Dollar General Acct but they have me with a Family Dollar acct trainer. But it's all good.

It's march the 26th and I'm headed to Ardmore, Ok. My first trainer took vacation so I'm being assigned a new trainer in Ardmore on the Dollar General acct. wish me luck.

Translation: We're too cheap to have our ##### together enough to pay someone to drive a shuttle more often to take care of our potential new employees.

Truckerdan90 the answer to your first question an yes and no. If you are a student yes on both. If you are a experinced driver you just have the orientation. As far as drinking goes I suggest go on a 34 reset and get a hotel/motel room for the first night. Its actually against FCMSR Regulations for a driver to have unmanifested alcohol in the truck. In other words if the booze isn't part of the load it's not suppose to be on the truck. Also you have to remember that a BAC of .04 you as a CDL holder will be considered drunk and a BAC of .02 will get you put OOS and possibly a DUI. Also you will be looking for a new employer. Most companies have a 5+ year wait on any DUI related convictions regardless if its in car or CMV. Like someone posted earlier most companies have a zero tolerance for DUI and this is due to mostly insurance reasons.

Im a veteran about to get out of the service in May and going to school in June or July. I have heard good things about Werner and they do a lot for veterans so i think i would try them out.

Here's an update to my going to Werner on 03-16-12 to start orientation. My first trainer took vacation so I was placed with a new trainer on 03-26-12. Luckily both my first and current trainer are very down to earth people and excellent trainer's. I hired on with Werner with some experience, but no otr experience so after orientation I still have to do training, 140hrs total then i get my own truck. To date I have completed 60 hrs of the 140hrs. I hired on for the Dollar General acct. It's not easy work but it's nothing I can't handle. The hardest thing so far is getting the 53 foot trailers into the very tight area's to unload and learning all the Macro's on the Qualcomm. This past week I had to drive to Garland, Lavon and Plano Tx, then I got another load from Ardmore,Ok and went to New Mexico and El Paso, Tx.
