I'm planning on parking the truck for the summer.

I've been trying to figure the best practices so that nothing is damaged.

    Disconnecting the batteries.
    Getting a pm done
...that's all i've got so far.

I've heard at the diner's all kinds of stories. these batteries are new. 1 month. i've been told they won't work after four months.

what about the fuel lines. Will anything happen with them after a couple months of fuel siitting.what about the tanks...fill'em or mostly mty?

    any other tips? tia:biggrin_25514:

    I would:
    1. both tanks 3/4 full
    2. disconnect the batteries and invest in a low amperage clip on battery tender...it will maintain the batteries without excessive charging...aka cooking the batteries. btw that is one tender for Each battery....it is far cheaper than battery replacement.
    3. go to the depot and get a 2x12x10 cut it up and put wood under each tire.
    4. i would put jack stands under the frame and drop the bag pressure so the bags dont have pressure on them and blow the tanks....(close the valves).
    5. last go to the toy store and buy a teddy bear to put in the seat so she doesent get lonely. lol

Is anybody/you going to be around or accessible to the truck so it could be started, warmed up to operating temp and driven a bit? I once bought a new truck that had sat on a dealer's lot for several months, and I spent the 1st 3 months of driving it fixing stuff that had deteriorated from sitting with no use for too long, wheel seals etc.

This helps keep the top of all the gear sets in the trans and rears lubed and all the seals wet.

Are we talking three months or six months. I usually park my truck from December 15th to March 1st. Never have any issues besides batteries if I leave them connected.
If we're talking about just 3 or so months, just disconnect the batteries, throw some algae fuel treatment in at least half filled tanks and call it a day. If your talking 6 months, I'd want to drive it around the parking lot at the three month marker to lube the wheel seals. Ideally, starting the engine and running it around the parking lot once a month is the best though. Where are you parking it? If it's not on your property, I would clean out the truck and remove the batteries entirely and be prepared to lose a few things even still.

I think I'd do xl. Coming back to find someone swiped your ECM or something would negate any savings.

about the wheel seals. This was one of the most mentioned 'care' items.
I've got 754k miles, 300k, i put on it, and have no idea when or if the seals have ever been replaced.

should I just plan on new seals as part of a PM/hi mileage plan when i come back?

If it's just a few months you should be fine. If it stretches to six months, I'd just go ahead and replace the bearings and wheel seals as a normal maintenance type thing, unless you run fairly regional and can get home have one done on the weekend.

Is this a place where you'll be near-by to check on the truck, or, it'll be in storage and you won't see it until you come back ?
