i wouldn't go to ffe if they were the last company on earth. i have heard to many horror stories about them from my friends and strangers to make me steer clear. but ask other drivers that you see and see what they tell you.

I would suggest if at all possible you stay out of trucking. The industry is going through a major change in which they are now pretty much forced to run legal. It was over looked over the years, but now. Heavy fines and shutting down companies is what the government is doing.

Most of us have had over 4-10 trucking jobs and some have any have that many in the course of a couple years. Job hopping is frowned upon. Why because the companies already know they are going to treat you bad so you won't last long, and they don't want to incur the expense to get you to their orientation to feed and shelter you for a few days.

JBS is a decent company and after awhile you will be going to same customers. So you will know your way around pretty quick. Communication is terrible, but will be terrible at most companies with over 500 trucks, and pretty non existent if you go to a major carrier with over 5,000 trucks.

If you are overweight be prepared to be sleep studied to death. Alot of lawyers are going after companies who haven't had their drivers do a sleep study if they are involved in an accident. So companies are having most drivers who fit the criteria sleep studied to cover their butt, and its not cheap for the drivers.

Do you have a strong marriage? Most marriages won't survive especially when you have to become a slave to the road and absent from the home. Being in Colorado with JBS. I'm sure you will see home quite a bit, but don't plan on being there long if you don't want your next check to b miserable. If your wife can handle paying bills while you in training with 200 dollars a week. It's 300 but you will need money to eat while on the road. For 6 weeks and then having to pass the final road test from the guy in safety who has sent many a students home for failing.

If u decide not to go with JBS. Make sure the company has prepass or EZpass so after training you don't get stuck paying toll's and having to be reimbursed. Pre pass gets you pass the scales if the companies safety record isn't horrible. Some states don't have it but it is a plus. Make sure your company isn't cheap about getting your truck fixed out on the road. Or taking toll roads. Smaller companies treat you more like family, but worrying if you will have money on your fuel card when you fuel, and making sure your check will clear when it hits the bank. Will stress you out.

I hope this was a help, but if I didn't have the love I have for driving. I'd probably be doing better working 2 jobs at a fast food place. You may luck out and find a great job after you get some experience. Keep your expectations low. You may do alright. You put them high they will come tumbling down real quick. God bless and have a good day.

Jbs IMO is still better then most other noobie company's. I have a few friends that have it worse then I. I would look at conway before Jbs though. My opinion.

Picked up in Nacodogches and headed N on US59 on my way to I30. Didn't scale because the BOL weight said 38,000 and didn't feel the need to go out of my way. Besides, TX doesn't seem to care all that much about their scales being open as I have yet to go into one in over a year. Get up to the one at Queen City and sure enough, it's open. 90% sure I am OK but that other 10% is what is in my head. Pull in and there is 3 DOT SUV's there with officers with notebooks in their hands. Oh great... Get pulled over before I scale and get a Level 2. While I was inside getting my paperwork checked out another driver comes in and says, "I want an inspection"! I went HUH???? The officer said, "Boy, we don't get that too often". Ya, no sh@#! The guy said he just wanted to make sure everything was OK. The officer was kind enough to say that he would let him fix anything wrong that was minor that was found and not ding him for it. Everything was good with me and on my way out I asked if I was supposed to still go over the scale. Nope, have a good day. I scaled after that before going into AR...Oh yeah, I weighed just what I thought I would.

ok, jack and jill logistic: first off your right, communication at jbs could be so much better, but the training that is given is a little high then what you would receive at most companies of the same or higher grade. one, the training is 8wks, or 15000 which ever comes first for a student fresh out of school. two we run solo even as a training truck till maybe the last two weeks then the trainer can make the decision to go team if he or she feels the trainee or they can handle it. (it is not required here at jbs to team in order to pass training) yes the student will only bring home 528 after taxes per pay period(currently every other week). i will agree if you don't think you have a strong marriage please don't do this unless you really do want a divorce. your first year out here is going to be your hardest and driving a truck is like signing up for a tour of the military. when you sign up so does your whole family. living in the denver area does not mean you will see your home more. (because they will try and keep you away from this area so you do have the urge to take a ten hour at the house) if your wife is ok with this now be prepared to have her change her mind 6months down the road as she doesn't have a clue on what she is in for, till its too late. (just saying)

:biggrin_25516:this is the wife of a trucker wife. yes on his page. he wanted me to read all the post about jbs. he has been a driver for 9 years and with me for 6years............... it is hard to be truckers wife but just as hard to be a trucker. I am in this for the long run. I love a man who loves trucking. who is a good man. I know there are a few people at jbs that care if the drivers are happy and if the drivers are good. ist just so upsetting to find out that so many at jbs have fake faces........... its not rocket seince is it? I hope that Jbs can pull it together the way they say it is when you first start there................................................
